This is technical work observing engineering, water, and sewer projects for conformance to plans and specifications and City standards. Work is performed under general supervision.

Essential Job Duties

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Observe Civil Construction projects for conformance to plans and specifications.
  • Read plans and specifications.
  • Prepare reports.
  • Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Five (5) years experience in civil construction field;
  • Two (2) years experience in office procedures with experience in drafting, design surveying, civil construction inspection and engineering.
  • Must possess a valid Florida Drivers License and clean driving record.
  • Requires demonstrated ability to utilize personal computer and office software such as MS Word, MS Excel and electronic mail.

Knowledge of all aspects of civil engineering construction. Knowledge of estimating, general reports, and permit requirements. Knowledge of office procedures, paper flow, estimating and general report writing. Technical knowledge of insight into construction projects. Ability to work well with others and coordinate projects with contractors. Ability to meet deadlines and schedules. Ability to read, use and understand plans, specifications and contract documents. Skills in communications. Ability to manage and prioritize routine, specialized and complex assignments and problems utilizing knowledge acquired through prior education, training, and experience. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment.
