    Job Summary
    SMSI is looking for a summer intern to support our Engineering department in a full-time capacity. The intern will work closely with our engineering staff and assist with client projects. The intern will benefit from hands-on experience, technical training, mentoring from professional staff, and working within a positive team environment. The internship will run from May of 2027 – August of 2027.

    Responsibilities
    • Collaborating with engineers on the design and development of systems or structures.
    • Creating models using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software or other design tools.
    • Gathering and analyzing data related to engineering projects.
    • Assisting in the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and documentation.
    • Preparing design calculations, requisitions, specifications, manuals, and user guides.
    • Maintaining project files and updating records as needed.
    • Helping manage or track project schedules and timelines.
    • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, such as other engineering departments or production.
    • Gaining practical experience and technical skills by working alongside experienced engineers.
    • Seeking feedback on performance to improve technical expertise and understanding of the field.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools including Word, Excel and Outlook
    • U.S. Citizen
    • The candidate must have an active Real ID driver’s license for badging and onboarding.

    Education
    • Students must be enrolled in an engineering program at an ABET accredited engineering school with the goal of obtaining a bachelor’s degree in engineering. Students must be entering their Junior, or Senior, year in school beginning fall of 2027; or be enrolled in an engineering master’s program.
