GA-ASI has an exciting new opportunity for a Flight Technologies Tools and Support Engineering Manager in Poway, CA. The engineering manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the systems and business processes of the Flight Technologies department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and mentor a team of engineers with a focus on the flight sciences (GNC, aerodynamics, flight performance, and CFD) and specifically the tools that enable their work.
- Manage the compute resources of the department, including maintenance and upgrades.
- Manage the capital expenses for the department.
- Manage software licensing for the department.
- Oversee resource planning for the department.
- Oversee department bid and proposal work.
- Develop and maintain the roadmap for investment in the tools used by the department, to include codes developed internally by the team as well as COTS software packages.
- Recruit, hire, retain, and develop engineers with broad flight sciences backgrounds that align with the development roadmap.
- Closely coordinate resources with other department leaders as needed

- Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as eleven or more years of progressively complex engineering experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
- Proven experience in a supervisory or management role.
- Project and task management experience, including resource planning and bid and proposal tracking.
- Extensive experience in aerodynamics, flight performance, CFD, or GNC and knowledgeable about the other areas.
- Experience with flight testing of UAS.
- In-depth knowledge of aviation regulations and standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient with C Programming language, Python, and Matlab Auto-coding.
- Occasional travel to the company flight test facilities is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with GA-ASI aircraft, specifically Gray Eagle variants, Predator variants.
- Experience with various aircraft types, including both unmanned and manned fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
