Role Overview:

The Engineering Manager oversees engineering and product development across Indiana Correctional Industries statewide manufacturing operations, providing executive-level leadership to multiple sites and ensuring product design, manufacturing processes, and shop operations align with organizational goals, policies, regulations and standards. The position serves as a key member of the leadership team, helping to shape Indiana Correctional Industries strategic direction and long-term growth initiatives.The Engineering Manager oversees engineering and product development across Indiana Correctional Industries statewide manufacturing operations, providing executive-level leadership to multiple sites and ensuring product design, manufacturing processes, and shop operations align with organizational goals, policies, regulations and standards. The position serves as a key member of the leadership team, helping to shape Indiana Correctional Industries strategic direction and long-term growth initiatives.

Salary:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $75,010.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Set priorities, assign work, develop engineers and technicians, and manage performance.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance strategies, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and reliability improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, throughput, safety, and operating costs using; Lean Six Sigma, or similar methods.
  • Lead equipment purchases, automation projects, facility modifications, installations, commissioning, and project budgets.
  • Work closely with operations to resolve equipment, process, and technical problems that affect production schedules.
  • Evaluate and optimize processes, tooling, equipment, layouts, and automation.
  • Ensure engineering activities and equipment comply with OSHA, environmental requirements, company standards, and applicable industry codes.
  • Partner with operations to address defects, process variation, customer complaints, and corrective/preventative actions.
  • Maintain engineering drawings, equipment specifications, procedures, bills of materials, and change-control records.
  • Track KPIs such as OEE, downtime, throughput, project performance, maintenance costs, and engineering related quality issues.
  • Manage engineering and production operations across a statewide organization, coordinating with multiple levels of leadership to finalize product builds, tooling, spare parts, consumables, safety supplies, and raw materials.
  • Analyze new products and optimize existing designs, including bills of material, routings, and required production processes.
  • Develop offender job training programs that support offender workers in performing a range of engineering, material management, and manufacturing tasks.
  • Oversee the material management group responsible for production scheduling, forecasting material requirements, and ensuring timely procurement of raw materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational needs.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What Youll Need for Success:

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of engineering or manufacturing experience, with demonstrated leadership or management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, and production systems.
  • Experience managing engineering projects from concept through implementation and production.
  • Proficiency in developing and maintaining bills of material (BOMs), routings, work instructions, and production processes.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with engineering, ERP/MRP, CAD, and other manufacturing-related software systems.
  • Willingness and ability to travel between facilities as required.
