    Summary of Position:

    The Engineering Manager plans, monitors and controls all engineering activity within their assigned business unit, including sales activities, new product development, and sustaining engineering.  In addition to managerial tasks, this individual also provides technical leadership with creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment as they anticipate and direct solutions to engineering problems.   This role is often at the forefront of customer and supplier interactions essential to the success of the business.  The Engineering Manager coordinates with other department team members, customers, and outside sales representatives to ensure compliance with regulations and customer requirements. 

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    Engineering Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team through technical guidance, performance management, and resource planning.

    Program Execution: Manage concurrent engineering programs to deliver scope, schedule, budget, risk, and resource objectives.

    New Product Development: Direct aerospace product design, development, qualification, and transition from concept through production.

    Technical Problem Solving: Lead root cause analysis, corrective actions, and resolution of complex product and program issues.

    Regulatory Compliance: Ensure engineering work meets FAA, aerospace, quality system, safety, reliability, and customer requirements.

    Continuous Improvement: Drive productivity, process improvement, and efficiency initiatives that improve quality, performance, and business results.

     

     

     

     

     

     

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
    • Focuses on management of multiple concurrent engineering projects with an emphasis on cost, schedule, and dynamic resource allocation.
    • Cultivates customer and supplier relationships while maintaining oversight on critical or sensitive intercompany interactions.
    • Effectively communicates technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Maintains a healthy productivity improvement funnel and monitors & controls implementation of productivity improvement projects.
    • Maintains oversight of critical projects. In-person participation in leading the problem solving of particularly difficult technical issues and controls customer communication when necessary.
    • Facilitates idea generation of innovative ideas to support the business unit’s core competencies.

     

    Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, systems or related engineering from a 4 year accredited university or college is required
    • At least 7 years’ progressive experience in aerospace new product development
    • Working knowledge of aerospace and FAA requirements
    • Supervisory experience preferred
    • Analytical skills for evaluating information carefully and solving complex problems
    • Communicate effectively to internal and external customers in both oral and written form
    • Organized, attention to detail, sense of urgency, maintains confidentiality
    • Ability to make independent decisions on routine office activities

    Physical Requirements:

    • Restrictions are limited only by individual’s inability to perform essential job duties and where an unsafe condition would result for the individual or surrounding employees
    • Required lifting weight: 35 lbs. Lifting Frequency: Rarely
    • Sitting, standing, reaching, bending, and moving for long periods of time
    • Manual dexterity which allows the individual to use hands to type on a keyboard, use a mouse and write are required, as is the ability to speak and hear
    • Ability to work in a Manufacturing environment
    • Ability to interact and participate in meetings

     

    Work Environment:

    • 10% Travel
    • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions
    • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment when inside the factory
    • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable when inside the factory
    • Requires repetitive movement
    • Requires sitting for extended periods of time

     

    Safety Hazard:

    • Requires eye protection when inside the factory
    • Constantly working with computers and computer programs, which require long periods of sitting.  Eyestrain could be a factor.
