Conta Costa County's Public Works Department is seeking qualified individuals to fill one (1) Engineering Records Technician position in the Records Section of the Administrative Services Division. The position is responsible for managing engineering records, responding to public requests for records, and maintaining and updating the departments electronic records management system to ensure accurate, accessible, and current information.

The Contra County Public Works Department (CCCPWD) is responsible for the maintenance and operation of over 650 miles of roads, 79 miles of streams and channels, and over 150 County buildings. CCCPWD services include parks and recreation, sandbag distribution, flood control, road and facilities maintenance, and storm water management. CCCPWD operates two airports, Buchanan Field Airport in Concord, and Byron Airport in Byron. CCCPWD strives for continuous improvement to deliver cost effective, safe reliable and sustainable projects, programs, and quality services.

  • Provide records-related customer service to County staff and the public.
  • Maintain and update the electronic records management system by incorporating new and revised records.
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of records.
  • Coordinate with vendors to obtain office supplies and maintain office equipment.
  • Assist staff and the public with locating and accessing records online.
  • Research, interpret, and analyze technical information and records.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency, or a high school proficiency certificate.

Experience: Three (3) years of full-time experience responsible for the maintenance and retrieval of records of a complex filing system.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Experience working for a public agency.
  • Experience managing or working with engineering records.
  • Experience using electronic document or records management systems.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Experience interpreting technical documents and information.

Selection Process

  • Application Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application; applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.
  • Multiple Choice Examination: An online multiple-choice examination will be conducted to measures candidates competencies as they relate to the job. These may include but are not limited to: professional and technical expertise, attention to detail, mathematical facility, analyzing and interpreting data, and customer focus. Candidates who receive a score of at least 70% during the examination process will be placed on the eligible list. (Weighted 100%) Tentatively scheduled in August, 2026.
  • Departmental Hiring Interview: To be scheduled once the eligible list is established.
