Job Summary

Our client is seeking an Engineering Specialist – Materials Engineer to provide technical expertise and engineering support for high-level waste (HLW) vitrification design and fabrication processes. This role is responsible for performing engineering analyses, developing material engineering solutions, and ensuring technical adequacy in areas such as material selection, welding, metallurgy, coatings, and corrosion protection. The position collaborates with multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve complex technical issues while supporting Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) activities in compliance with industry standards and nuclear safety requirements.


Job Description

  • Provide engineering support and technical guidance for HLW vitrification design and fabrication processes
  • Perform engineering analyses and develop material engineering solutions for complex technical issues
  • Review engineering design deliverables to ensure technical adequacy in material selection, coatings, welding, metallurgy, material compatibility, and corrosion protection
  • Develop, maintain, and revise material engineering specifications
  • Resolve material quality issues and support continuous design improvements
  • Serve as the material technology expert for the project
  • Coordinate with engineering disciplines and functional groups to resolve technical issues
  • Facilitate communication with project stakeholders and support cross-functional collaboration
  • Support Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) activities
  • Complete assigned engineering tasks within budget and schedule requirements
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, contract requirements, and applicable industry codes and standards
  • Promote and support a strong nuclear safety quality culture in daily work activities

 

Skills Required

  • Strong knowledge of material selection, metallurgy, welding, coatings, corrosion protection, and material compatibility
  • Experience performing engineering calculations, design, and technical documentation
  • Knowledge of waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power generation, or chemical process facilities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting project schedules and budgets
  • Experience supporting engineering design for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power generation, or chemical process facilities is preferred

 

Education/Training/Certifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university with 2 years of experience or Doctorate in Engineering

 

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including employment and education verification
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy (DOE) badge for access to the Hanford Site
  • Must have authorization to work and remain in the United States without employer sponsorship
