A large industrial manufacturing facility in East Tennessee is seeking an Engineering Superintendent to lead engineering activities supporting a critical hot rolling operation. This role combines strategic leadership with hands‑on direction of engineering teams, with a strong emphasis on reliability, continuous improvement, and root cause problem solving.

The position requires an experienced leader who can align engineering execution with plant objectives while developing people, improving systems, and driving long‑term equipment performance.

Job Details

The Engineering Superintendent leads a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for supporting both planned and unplanned engineering activities. This role drives the deployment of reliability and operating system tools, reinforces a strong safety culture, and ensures engineering resources are focused on improving uptime, cost efficiency, and process capability.

Key Responsibilities:
Safety, Health, and Compliance
  • Execute departmental safety and environmental plans and reinforce safe work practices
  • Promote human performance principles across engineering and plant teams
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and internal engineering standards for all projects

Leadership and Team Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop engineering staff through mentoring, feedback, and performance management
  • Drive employee engagement, accountability, and technical growth
  • Participate in policy development and long‑term departmental and plant planning

Reliability and Continuous Improvement
  • Lead deployment of reliability excellence tools and operating system methodologies
  • Establish and standardize engineering best practices
  • Benchmark internally and externally to drive continuous improvement
  • Develop and execute engineering strategies that improve equipment availability, efficiency, and lifecycle cost

Financial and Resource Management
  • Own annual engineering budgets, forecasts, and cost improvement initiatives
  • Track spending and ensure alignment with financial targets
  • Partner with procurement to manage contracts and technical service agreements

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment
  • Prior supervisory or management experience
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical discipline
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Strong background in industrial reliability and continuous improvement
  • Experience working in union manufacturing environments
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision‑making skills
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization
  • Proficiency with standard office and management tools
