Description of Work

This is an Engineering Supervisor position that involves general administrative responsibilities and specialized professional supervision in highway engineering. Will serve as the District Engineer for New Hanover and Brunswick counties. Will manage and coordinate construction and contract administration within assigned counties. Will directly supervise Resident Engineer, engineers, technicians, and clerical staff and provide technical assistance on engineering problems. Will supervise development of secondary road programs and preparation of plans for Division projects. Will direct the review of plans for subdivisions and various types of permits and encroachments. Will respond to inquiries from the public and local officials. Will coordinate with local municipalities on zoning review cases. Will act as point of contact for municipalities and public.
A full knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering as related to the location, design, construction and maintenance of highways. Ability to understand, explain and administer contracts; interpret plans, provisions and specifications, policies, procedures, regulations and laws as well as strong written and verbal skills. Ability to prepare documents that are legally sound. Ability to direct the work of other construction engineering functions involving difficult engineering work and to make sound recommendations and decisions on engineering problems. Ability to supervise and evaluate performance of other employees. Will perform administrative and management duties.
As part of the hiring approval process, NCDOT will run a driver license check after conducting interviews, but prior to offering a position.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience including three (3) years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements
May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
