Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED. One year of experience in land surveying is required. Must possess a Drivers License. Completion of coursework in Engineering, Land Surveying, Geography and/or Mapping or related field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Recruitment Notes

Employees in this position serve as a rod person on a topographic survey crew and provide general assistance with hydrographic surveys. They serve as a relief instrument person on routine survey assignments and perform duties such as measuring distances with a survey chain or tape, clearing brush, driving stakes, holding survey rods, and cleaning and maintaining survey vehicles and equipment.

Employees also run levels to extend benchmarks and determine ground and water elevations, perform measurements and soundings for cross-sections of canals and waterways, and paint aerial control targets and control lines in support of surveying operations.
