POSITION: Project Lead the Way Engineering Teacher

LOCATION: HUNTINGTOWN HIGH SCHOOL

POSITION SUMMARY: Project Lead the Way Engineering is a five course CTE program. To be a program completer, students must take all five courses. However, some students may elect to only take some of the courses. Generally, students will take the first course, Introduction to Engineering Design, in the ninth grade. As tenth graders, students will take the second course, Principles of Engineering. In eleventh grade, students will take two courses, Aerospace Engineering and Digital Electronics. In twelfth grade they will take Engineering Design and Development.

Gateway to Technology is the middle school companion program to Project Lead the Way Engineering.

Under direction of the school principal, plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure student success. Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors the appropriate use and care of equipment and materials.

REPORTS TO: School Principal.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE: At the time of employment, the candidate must have:

  • A Maryland Standard Professional Teacher Certificate or Advanced Professional Teacher Certificate with preference in the area(s) of secondary science, secondary mathematics, and/or technology education.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS: These are pre-employment knowledge, abilities and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions.) At the time of application, the candidate must have:

  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel, and community members.

  • Demonstrates success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed below.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES:

  • Participates in core training and workshops related to the delivery of the Project Lead the Way curriculum.
  • Implements the Project Lead the Way curriculum with fidelity.
  • Implements the Project Lead the Way online student registration and online course assessments.
  • Provides leadership to the Project Lead the Way community partnership committee.
  • Plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students.
  • Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings.
  • Monitors and evaluates student outcomes.
  • Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
  • Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of children.
  • Strives improve professional competence through staff development.
  • Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
  • Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Serves on special committees related to Project Lead the Way.

OTHER DUTIES: Performs related work as required or assigned by the school principal or designee.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Position requires significant periods of standing and walking, and is performed in a typical school environment. Employees are required to think, concentrate, and interact with others. Employees are expected to come to work regularly and promptly. Employees must be able to work under stress and meet all deadlines.

UNUSUAL DEMANDS: May be subject to a flexible work schedule.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten (10) month position and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current Calvert County Public Schools salary schedule for teachers. If selected for this position, the candidate must enroll in direct deposit.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt.

EFFECTIVE DATE OF POSITION: Prior to the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year.

References must be directly related to educational experience and must include immediate supervisor.
