Protech Staffing is currently seeking a motivated Engineering Technician Automation to join an innovative production and automation team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically skilled technician or early-career engineer looking to gain hands-on experience working with advanced robotics, PLC systems, and automated manufacturing technologies.
As an Engineering Technician Automation, you will support, maintain, and optimize automated systems used in a high-tech production environment. This role focuses on PLC programming, robotic integration, system troubleshooting, and continuous improvement to ensure efficient, precise, and reliable manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Support and maintain automated systems, including PLCs, robotic arms, and motion control systems used in production.
Develop and optimize modular PLC control code using Structured Text (ST) within TwinCAT 3 environments.
Program, simulate, and troubleshoot industrial robots, including ABB robotic systems using RAPID and RobotStudio.
Integrate and configure precision robotic systems (e.g., Mecademic robots) for handling sensitive electronic components.
Design, configure, and maintain EtherCAT network architectures to synchronize robotics, sensors, and machine vision systems.
Utilize TwinCAT libraries to integrate machine controllers with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) for real-time data tracking and reporting.
Troubleshoot electro-mechanical system issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions for performance issues such as latency or precision drift.
Monitor system performance and implement improvements to reduce cycle times and increase first-pass yield.
Generate and maintain technical documentation, including system architecture diagrams, troubleshooting guides, and process improvements.
Collaborate closely with engineering, production, and software teams to support automation initiatives and manufacturing goals.
Perform system upgrades, including software deployments and hardware enhancements.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management or supervision.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
2+ years of experience working with PLC programming and automation systems in a manufacturing or production environment.
Hands-on experience with TwinCAT 3, including strong proficiency in Structured Text (ST) and motion control libraries.
Experience programming ABB robots using RAPID and working within RobotStudio simulation environments.
Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT and TCP/IP.
Experience troubleshooting complex electro-mechanical systems with a structured, analytical approach.
Familiarity with C# / .NET for system integration or middleware development.
Basic knowledge of version control systems such as Git.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
