Job Title: Engineering Technical Writer

Job Description

The Engineering Technical Writer develops clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation that supports manufacturing and assembly operations. This role translates engineering designs and build processes into detailed work instructions, ensuring production teams can consistently follow best practices and approved methods. The writer collaborates closely with engineering and production teams to align documentation with current designs, support new product introductions, and maintain robust document control. They continuously improve materials using visuals and modern tools to enhance usability and effectiveness on the production floor.

Responsibilities

  • Develop clear, accurate, and comprehensive work instructions that support manufacturing and assembly operations.
  • Translate engineering designs, build processes, and best practices into user-friendly technical documentation for production teams.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to capture and document approved assembly methods and process steps.
  • Ensure all documentation aligns with current engineering designs, specifications, and process changes in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Support new product introductions by creating, updating, and organizing technical documentation and work instructions.
  • Maintain document control by updating, revising, and archiving technical documents to reflect the latest design and process changes.
  • Incorporate visuals, diagrams, and other modern tools into documentation to improve clarity and usability on the production floor.
  • Review engineering drawings and models to ensure that work instructions accurately reflect mechanical designs and requirements.
  • Continuously improve documentation quality by gathering feedback from engineering and production teams and implementing enhancements.
  • Ensure technical documents meet regulatory and internal quality standards for manufacturing environments such as medical device or aerospace.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor"s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or another engineering discipline.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a regulated manufacturing environment, such as medical device or aerospace.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and usability.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment and collaborating with manufacturing engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and work instruction development.
  • SolidWorks experience preferred for reviewing and interpreting mechanical designs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience creating work instructions and technical documentation specifically for production and assembly operations.
  • Background in manufacturing engineering or close collaboration with manufacturing engineering teams.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, step-by-step instructions for non-engineering users.
  • Comfort using visual aids, diagrams, and modern documentation tools to enhance understanding and usability.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation in a regulated environment.

Work Environment

The role operates within a regulated manufacturing environment, such as medical device or aerospace, where accuracy, compliance, and process discipline are critical. The Engineering Technical Writer works closely with engineering and production teams on or near the production floor to ensure documentation reflects real-world processes and constraints. The position involves frequent interaction with mechanical drawings, engineering models, and work instruction tools, as well as participation in new product introduction activities and ongoing process improvements.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $88000.00/yr.
