The Active Materials Research Team at Tesla is seeking a skilled Engineering Technician to support the development testing and validation of next-generation fast charge materials cell designs and concepts. In this role the focus will be on validating materials that significantly enhance fast charging capabilities compared to current commercial solutions. Collaboration with senior materials engineers engineering technicians and cell design engineers will be essential to bridge cutting-edge academic research with practical industrial applications qualify new materials and integrate advanced fast charge strategies into large-format cells.
Synthesize high-performance cost-effective fast charging materials with superior energy density cycle life and safety while maintaining detailed documentation of R&D progress
Screen and evaluate novel electrolytes compatible with in-house cathode materials to enable new cell chemistries and extend cycle life
Design and execute experiments and validation tests to assess material and technological performance qualifying new materials for cell-level reliability safety and manufacturability
Collaborate with the laboratory manager and EHS team to ensure safe compliant operation of furnaces mixers dry rooms gloveboxes and cell assembly equipment
Degree in Materials Science Chemical Engineering Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
Hands-on experience synthesizing cathode and anode materials preferred
Familiarity with battery electrode stack design including optimization of mass loading electrode thickness and NP ratio for accurate performance evaluation preferred
Proficiency with materials characterization and electrochemical testing techniques such as XRD SEM ICP BET EIS and GITT for evaluating cathode materials and full cells preferred
Demonstrated ability to perform root-cause analysis and resolve interfacial cross-talk between cathode electrolyte and anode to improve full-cell cycle life preferred
Practical experience in cell fabrication including slurry coating coin-cell and pouch-cell assembly electrolyte formulation and filling preferred
Strong programming skills in Python MATLAB or similar tools for processing and analyzing battery test data preferred
