Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Responsible for preparing complete preliminary and final Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) design drawings to develop solicitation notice and technical contract requirements for award of these engineering projects.
  • Provides technical expertise, services and assistance to engineers and technical staff in solving unique and complex problems through state-of-the-art computer equipment & technology used by the engineering profession such as AutoCAD and ESRl ArcGIS.
  • Conducts investigations to determine as-built quality, accuracy and conditions associated with infrastructure modifications and major modernization projects before entering the information into the Data Base.
  • Provides CADD As-builts of buildings and infrastructure drawings to Engineering personnel and others to design projects.

Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for series 0802 (for positions at GS-4 or equivalent and above):

This series covers technical positions supervising, leading, or performing work involving applying a practical knowledge of the methods and techniques of engineering or architecture; and construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices, and materials.

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.

Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:

  • Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
  • Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.

You may qualify at the GS-11 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector). Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Overall project planning and development and computer programming to facilitate manipulation of data using software;
  • Verifying and updating GIS and CADD databases;
  • Assisting with the preparation of layouts, designs, instructions, plans and specifications for the maintenance, construction or modernization of facilities.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
