Biohabitats is seeking an Engineering Technician with deep field experience to provide operational support, technical design support, operations and maintenance (O&M) guidance, and construction administration/observation for decentralized and centralized water and wastewater infrastructure. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, technically skilled in pumping, piping systems, controls, instrumentation, and metering, and passionate about integrating ecology and design.


The Engineering Technician for this position will support a multidisciplinary team on integrated water strategies for public, private, and institutionalclientsthroughout the country. Role & Responsibilities

  • Field & Operations Support - Provide on-site troubleshooting and operational support for wastewater, water reuse, rainwater harvesting, and related systems; Support system start-up, commissioning, and performance optimization; Develop O&M procedures and training materials for operators and clients.

  • Technical Design Support - Assist in the selection, sizing, and specification of pumps, meters, valves, piping systems, controls/SCADA, and related components; Support the preparation of design and construction documents (plans, details, and specifications); Contribute to narrative/report production, process flow schematics, and equipment schedules.

  • Construction Administration & Construction Observation - Perform administrative reviews of submittals and requests for information; Conduct in-field construction observations and prepare site reports; Support punch lists, closeout documentation, and as-built verification.


RequiredSkills, Experience, and Knowledge

  • Hands-on knowledge of pumps, meters, valves, piping systems, instrumentation, controls, and related equipment, primarily as it applies to onsite/decentralized systems.

  • Demonstrated experience providing operations support and field troubleshooting.

  • Experience assisting with preparing design and construction documentation (plans and specifications).

  • Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Willingness to travel to field sites about 8 – 12 times a year. Vehicle and valid driver's license required.


Preferred Skills, Experience, and Knowledge

  • Experience with wastewater process operations or technologies such as MBBRs, constructed wetlands, sand filters, trickling filters, UV, and/or ozone.

  • Project management and/or team leadership experience.

  • Cost estimating and technical writing experience.

  • Enthusiasm for travel and hands-on work at project sites.


Education

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field (e.g., Environmental, Mechanical, Civil) or equivalent knowledge/experience.


Licensure

Certified Water/Wastewater Operator credentials are desirable but not required.


Years of Relevant Experience

7+ years of field experience with water/wastewater and related infrastructure systems, with emphasis on decentralized scale systems


Salary

$100.000.00 - $115,000.00

Denver, CO or Portland, OR


Biohabitats provides a flexible, hybrid work environment with new team members expected to initially spend several days each week in the Denver or Portland office during onboarding, but with the ability to transition to fewer office days per week, with flexibility to adjust based on field work and travel.
