The Department: Silicon Valley Power, Asset Management Group has an excellent opportunity for the position of Engineering Technician (Electric). Job responsibilities include, prepares scaled and dimensioned plans based on sketches prepared by engineering and/or estimating personnel, maintains records of as-builts and updates existing SVP maps and records utilizing ESRI-based GIS applications, maintains master map files, including such records of block maps, street light maps, fiber communication, electric utility single line and operating diagrams and other maps, performs computing and drafting operations in AutoCAD, involved in checking drawings of electric utility facilities, perform other duties as assigned.
The Position: The Engineering Technician (Electric) is an entry-level classification in the paraprofessional Engineering Technician series. An incumbent in this classification performs routine technical office and field work in support of various engineering projects in the Electric Utility Department. Specific responsibilities will vary according to assignment. Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
Minimum Education Requirements: Graduation from high school or tested equivalent, including satisfactory completion of courses in mathematics
Minimum Experience Requirements: One (1) year working with geographic information system (GIS) tools and systems OR one (1) year working with computer-aided drafting (CAD).
Acceptable Substitution: Post-secondary education equivalent to thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units including satisfactory completion of courses in mathematics, engineering, CAD, GIS, or related subjects may be substituted for the experience requirement.
License/Certifications: Possession of a valid California Class C drivers license is required at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment.
Desirable Qualifications
Computer-aided drafting (CAD) AND geographic information systems (GIS) experience
Completion of post-secondary coursework in GIS and CAD.

Membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS)
Classic Employees: 2.7% @ age 55 formula - employee pays 8.00% of gross pay, minus $61 bi-weekly

Medicare and Social Security (FICA)
Employee pays 6.20% up to $11,439 (Social Security) and 1.45% (Medicare) of gross pay
Health Insurance
The City contributes up to 100% of the premium of the Kaiser (Region 1) plan for Employee Only and Employee + 1 Dependent plans, and up to 90% of the premium of the Kaiser (Region 1) plan of the Employee + 2 or More Dependents plan
Employees electing health coverage with premiums above the City health contribution will pay additional premium costs from salary on a pre-tax basis
No cash difference is paid if an employee elects a plan cheaper than the max City contribution
To be eligible for the City's contribution toward health, employees must be on a paid status for at least 80 hours in the month prior to the month of coverage
The City's contribution is prorated based on scheduled hours for part time employees
