Engineering Technician I

Location: Fremont, CA

Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 12 months
  • Pay Rate: $29.70 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Swing Shift; Saturday work is required; overtime is required as needed

Job Summary

This position is seeking a person capable of running an Intevac 200L sputter machine in a proficient manner to fulfill the requests of the Media Development Engineering organization. Responsibilities include processing experiments precisely as documented or requested by the Engineering staff. The successful candidate will work in a Class 10/100 cleanroom environment, follow established procedures and protocols, provide technical support and constructive feedback, collect sputter-related data using metrology tools, maintain accurate documentation, and collaborate effectively with Engineering to exceed operational goals.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include processing media through various media processes and equipment, including but not limited to the following:

Pilot Line Operations

Engineering Experiments

  • Process experiments for the Engineering team.
  • Process discs through various production tools.
  • Measure media using metrology tools.
  • Enter data accurately.
  • Provide feedback and results to Engineering and Management.

Cleanroom Operations

  • Work in a Class 10/100 cleanroom environment.
  • Wear full PPE, including head-to-toe cleanroom suits, masks, and safety glasses.

Material Handling

  • Walk frequently throughout the shift (approximately 50% depending on the assignment).
  • Retrieve and transport parts between workstations.
  • Use carts when available; hand-carry materials when necessary.

Loading & Unloading

  • Load and unload products onto racks and equipment.
  • Reach between approximately 24" and 53".
  • Handle materials weighing up to 10 lbs.

Computer & Documentation

  • Use computers to operate manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform software interactions required by production processes.
  • Save files correctly and follow documented recipes and instructions.
  • Use Microsoft Excel and Windows applications.
  • Communicate with Engineering through email and phone.

Equipment Operation

  • Step onto step stools when necessary to access processing platforms.
  • Bend and kneel to perform equipment inspections and process checks.
  • Perform tape changes and equipment adjustments as directed.
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity when handling ESD-sensitive components and miniature assemblies.

Cross Training

  • Cross-train in multiple production areas to improve operational flexibility and productivity.

Work Schedule

  • Work Saturdays as part of the regular schedule when required.
  • Work overtime as needed.

  • Ability to work in a cleanroom environment while wearing full PPE.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Comfortable standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to follow detailed work instructions and standard operating procedures.

Required Experience

  • No previous experience required. On-the-job training will be provided.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Class 10/100 cleanroom.
  • Full cleanroom PPE required.
  • Frequent walking and movement throughout the shift.
  • Manual material handling required.
  • Close interaction with Engineering personnel.
  • Use of manufacturing equipment, metrology tools, and computer systems.
