What to Expect
In the Abuse Testing & Engineering group, we push energy storage and power electronics to their limits and beyond using specialized equipment to apply electrical, mechanical, and thermal stresses. Our goal is to provide rapid feedback to inform designs early in development, by understanding how robust systems perform under abusive conditions. We accommodate external regulations but have a strong focus on internal requirements and test to failure. Every Tesla battery system comes through our lab, both vehicles and energy storage. Our environment is fast-paced and incredibly exciting.
We are looking for an Engineering Technician to support the testing of a variety of electrically abusive scenarios for power electronics and battery systems across both vehicle and energy products. Our team works with Engineering groups across various disciplines requiring effective communication skills and collaboration. You would be tasked with building test stands, setting up test articles mechanically and electrically to be operated outside of the full product, and running tests. We look for anyone with an exceptional ability to creatively solve problems, take initiative, and a desire to learn.
What You'll Do
Prepare and instrument batteries and power electronic devices to analyze Engineering prototypes and validate design assumptions
Dissect test articles after test to capture and analyze results and failure modes
Operate high voltage and high current power supplies
Collaborate with Test Engineers to develop and execute test plans, procedures, and protocols to validate battery pack and power electronic device safety performance
Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve technical issues and improve product design
Provide clear and concise documentation of test results, inspection findings, and technical issues to support data-driven decision making
Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to increase efficiency and productivity
Design, fabricate, and modify test fixtures and equipment to support battery pack testing and validation
