Description

The City of Thousand Oaks is hiring an Engineering Technician in the Public Works department.

We are seeking a positive and motivated individual to perform the technical functions in support of the City's engineering and development construction projects. The successful candidate should be highly organized, detail-oriented, flexible and adaptable in a work environment with constantly changing priorities. This individual will be a team player who provides high-quality customer service to both internal and external customers.

Position Highlights:

  3. Use the latest technologies in engineering, project review, and permit processing.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform calculations and technical plan checks of public works and utility projects.
  • Assist with field-related surveys and utility inspections for private and public construction projects.
  • Conduct extensive research of engineering infrastructure plans for public and private construction projects.
  • Assist with construction drawings, plan review, and post-construction field inspections.
  • Participate in the filing and retrieval of engineering maps, documents, and records as requested by the public and City personnel.
  • Provide exceptional customer service at the public counter, via email, and over the phone.
  • Prepare permits and work orders for water and wastewater connections and installations, and coordinate work with City field crews and inspectors.
  • Respond to inquiries from consultants, contractors, and the public regarding City engineering requirements.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam, GIS systems and/or AutoCAD is desirable.
  • Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify alternative solutions, evaluate consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of established City policies and goals.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and customer service skills.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • The ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, work well under pressure, and manage frequent interruptions.
  • High school diploma or GRE, supplemented by college level course work in civil engineering, drafting, engineering mathematics, or related field.
  • Minimum of one year of paraprofessional engineering or field experience.
  • A valid Class C California driver's license.
