The City of Topeka's Public Works department is seeking a qualified individual to join its Engineering team as an Engineering Technician II.
This is a technical position in the area of construction inspection, construction surveying, interpretation of plans and specifications, documentation of construction activities and other related engineering work. This position's primary hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; hours may vary depending on department needs.
What you'll do: • Inspect new construction, renovation and repair work for quality, materials and workmanship. • Prepare and maintain construction progress reports and material testing documentation. • Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, maps, legal descriptions and exhibits. • Perform soil, concrete, asphalt, utility and other materials testing in both a field and laboratory setting.
The ideal candidate: • Is familiar with construction principles and practices, materials used, and tools and equipment common to the construction industry. • Is highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. • Thrives in a mobile work environment. • Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or its equivalent is required. Must have a minimum of three years of related experience in construction or construction inspection field. Must obtain within one year of employment an ACI level I certification, Nuclear Gauge Safety Certification, Work Zone Safety or Traffic Control Management equivalent certification and a Nuclear Gauge Safety certification.
