Job Title: Engineering Technician
Contract Duration: 2 years
Location: Fargo, ND
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Work Schedule: 1st shift: 8am-5pm M-F

Summary
The Engineering Technician supports product validation and verification activities by performing instrumented and manual testing to ensure systems meet product specifications. This role plays a critical part in identifying defects, conducting failure analysis, and driving corrective actions to improve product reliability and production readiness. The technician collaborates closely with engineering and test teams, contributing to continuous improvement and product development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize TAKAYA APT-1600FD software to develop flying probe test programs
  • Perform inspection, testing, and failure analysis on electronic assemblies to determine root cause
  • Conduct manual testing of electronic circuits and PCBs (continuity, voltage, resistance) using multimeters and other tools
  • Troubleshoot PCB subassemblies, identify defects, and implement corrective actions
  • Perform soldering, rework, and component replacement per company and industry standards
  • Build and support test fixtures, harnesses, loads, and circuit boards
  • Assist with prototype and system bring-up activities
  • Create and maintain test documentation, validation records, and reports
  • Design and build advanced engineering test boxes
  • Support fixture, harness, and equipment installation
  • Escalate process or design issues and assist engineering with corrective actions and root cause analysis
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Train other personnel as needed
Core Technical Skills
  • Electronics, PCB & Testing
    • PCB subassembly inspection, testing, and troubleshooting
    • Manual circuit testing using multimeters (continuity, voltage, resistance)
    • Failure analysis and root cause identification
    • Soldering and fine-pitch rework
    • Component replacement and field-level repair
    • Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and datasheets
  • Engineering & Manufacturing Support
    • Prototype and system bring-up support
    • Test setup, validation, and documentation
    • Fixture, harness, and equipment installation support
    • Support corrective actions and issue escalation
  • Operating Systems & PC Tools
    • Experience with Windows 10/11 and Linux environments
    • PC-based testing, data collection, and reporting (Excel, documentation tools)
    • Firmware updates, system configuration, and diagnostics
  • Mechanical & Hardware
    • Assembly and disassembly of electronic and mechanical systems
    • Installation of servers, printers, and related equipment
    • Experience with fiber and copper cabling
    • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting skills
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Associate’s Degree in Electronics, Technical Diploma, Military Certification, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 1+ year of experience in electronics, manufacturing, or engineering (3+ years preferred)
Additional Skills
  • Strong understanding of electronic components and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret engineering schematics and technical documentation
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and data analysis skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years troubleshooting PCB subassemblies and failure modes
  • 3+ years of hands-on soldering (fine-pitch surface mount)
  • Experience with advanced test equipment (logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers)
  • Experience with PCB layout or design
  • Experience running and maintaining 3D printers
  • Experience machining materials (aluminum, steel, plastics, fiberglass)
  • Familiarity with John Deere components, systems, or equipmen
