Overview

We are seeking an Engineering Technician to support hands on electrical testing in a high current laboratory environment. This role works closely with test engineering and development teams to build, configure, and test Motor Control Centers (MCCs) and switchgear assemblies in accordance with UL and IEC standards. The position is lab based and requires strict adherence to electrical safety and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, detailed documentation, and a strong commitment to quality and safety.
This role is ideal for a technician who enjoys practical, hands on work, collaboration with engineers, and contributing directly to product validation and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Build and configure MCC and switchgear test samples according to engineering drawings and specifications
  • Assemble electrical and mechanical components for standard and custom test configurations
  • Prepare and support high current, high power electrical test setups
  • Conduct compliance testing in accordance with applicable standards, including:
    • UL 845
    • UL 891
    • IEC 61439 1
    • IEC 61439 2
  • Perform common electrical tests such as:
    • Short circuit testing
    • Arc flash testing
    • Temperature rise testing
    • Dielectric (hi pot) testing
  • Support safe operation of equipment in high energy lab environments
  • Document test setups, procedures, results, anomalies, and deviations accurately
  • Maintain traceability and compliance documentation
  • Follow all electrical safety, laboratory safety, and LOTO requirements
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and audit ready lab environment using 5S principles
  • Collaborate closely with development engineers and high current lab engineers
  • Provide hands on support during failure investigations and root cause analysis
  • Communicate test status, issues, and findings clearly to stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • Hands on experience with:
    • Electrical and mechanical assembly
    • Power and control wiring
    • Test instrumentation and laboratory equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of:
    • Electrical safety practices
    • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures
    • Safe work practices for high energy systems
  • Familiarity with 5S principles and continuous improvement concepts
  • Ability to work effectively in a lab environment requiring detailed documentation and precision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience testing MCCs, switchgear, or industrial power products
  • Familiarity with UL and IEC compliance testing
  • Prior experience in regulated or standards driven test environments
