    Description

    Tesla seeks an Engineering Technician to help develop manufacturing processes working closely with Design Engineering, Quality, Production, Maintenance, Sustaining and External vendors. This role involves taking vehicle design changes and equipment process changes from initial concept through procurement, installation, commissioning and trial.

    • Review vehicle designs and propose changes to meet manufacturing needs as part of driving Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
    • Develop process design feasibility (line flow, layout, cycle time) that meet safety, quality, productivity and cost key performance indicators (KPI)
    • Participate in the development and review of project planning such as project timelines, Request for Quotations, tooling buy-off, FMEA and risk assessments and milestone tracking and handover
    • Manage new equipment orders and refurbishment as well as logistics of equipment and parts to support installation and trial
    • Lead and support installation, commissioning, and testing of high-volume production lines, ensuring close collaboration with vendors to deliver the line in desired schedule and meeting standards
    • Participate and lead early prototype and trials builds, highlighting key equipment and process improvements with countermeasure development and implementation
    • Manage modification and trial build activity on non-production time (weekends/holidays) as well as production build support after activities
    • Experience in process understanding for high-volume manufacturing equipment
    • Proficiency in problem solving and root cause analysis techniques
    • Strong hands-on experience with automated manufacturing equipment lines, basic PLC operation and troubleshooting
    • Experience with using 2D/3D CAD tools such as AutoCAD and CATIA, Solidworks, etc.
    • Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, knowledge of GD&T
    • Ability to use basic hand tools for mechanical tooling assembly. Machine shop tools, robot operation is a plus
    • Strong technical communication, tracking and managing multiple tasks and assignments

    Essential Physical Demands

    • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
    • Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
    • Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
    • Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install parts
    • Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day
    • Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
    • Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
    • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety shoes, bump cap and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
