The City of Pasadena is currently seeking an industrious, committed, and skilled Engineering Technician to join the Public Works Departments team of professionals. Under general supervision, this position performs technical engineering duties in support of a variety of engineering design, construction, and maintenance engineering activities; and performs related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess current knowledge and experience in engineering practices, construction, computer-aided drafting, and is AUTO-CAD and/or GIS proficient. This is an excellent career opportunity to work on varied types of work and activities throughout the City.

COMPETENCIES
The following list represents the core competencies needed for success in this position.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, supplemented by college-level course work in engineering technology, drafting, engineering mathematics or related fields and at least two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in performing sub-professional engineering duties.

Special Requirements
Must possess a valid California Class C drivers license and comply with the Citys Motor Vehicle Safety Policy during the course of employment.
FICA Alternative Plan:
The City of Pasadena does not participate in Social Security. In lieu of Social Security, non-represented employees who work less than 20 hours per week or are not already members of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) are automatically enrolled in the FICA Alternative plan administered by Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS) upon date of hire. Employees contribute 7.5% of the gross earnings on a pre-tax basis to the plan.
Retirement:
The City of Pasadena contracts with the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) to offer a defined benefits program for eligible employees for employees who work at least 20 hours per week.
"New" CalPERS members are subject to the provisions of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) and will receive the following benefit formulas:
Miscellaneous: 2% at 62
Safety: 2.7% at 57
"Classic" CalPERS members receive the following benefit formulas:
Miscellaneous: 2.5% at 55
Safety: 3 % at 55
Deferred Compensation: *
The City offers a 457(b) deferred compensation plan to help employees save for their retirement and supplement their CalPERS pension. Employees can defer salary with pre-tax or Roth after-tax deductions up to annuals IRS maximum.
Health Insurance:*
The City contracts with CalPERS to offer several comprehensive health plans that include Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plans and Preferred Provider Organization (PPO).
