Engineering Technician – Product Evaluation
Position Summary:
The Engineering Technician – Product Evaluation supports Post-Market Performance & Product Surveillance across the Conair, Babyliss, Cuisinart, and Waring brands by performing engineering evaluations of returned products to identify failure modes, investigate product performance issues, and generate technical data that supports continuous product improvement.
Working closely with Product Evaluation Engineers, Product Engineering, Product Certification, and Global Engineering teams, this role performs hands-on product evaluations, documents engineering findings, and helps identify trends that improve product quality, reduce warranty costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
This is a hands-on, fast-paced role and a great opportunity to grow a career in product evaluation and quality. It is an ideal fit for someone early in their career (roughly 0 to 2 years of experience) with a basic understanding of engineering or technical concepts and a desire to build on it. You do not need to be an expert; you will be trained on industry standards, testing methods, and evaluation techniques so you can develop real, marketable skills while helping ensure the safety and quality of products people use every day.
Key Responsibilities
Post-Market Product Evaluation
- Perform engineering evaluations of returned consumer products to identify product failures, performance issues, and potential root causes.
- Conduct functional, mechanical, electrical, and visual inspections using established engineering procedures.
- Document failure observations, product conditions, and engineering findings in standardized reports and databases.
- Assist Product Evaluation Engineers with failure investigations and root cause analyses.
- Verify corrective actions through evaluation of updated products, engineering changes, and supplier improvements.
Engineering Investigation & Analysis
- Collect, organize, and document engineering data supporting post-market investigations.
- Identify recurring product issues and communicate potential trends to Engineering leadership.
- Support comparative evaluations of returned products against production samples and competitive products.
- Assist with engineering analysis of customer complaints, warranty returns, and field performance issues.
- Escalate unusual or recurring product failures requiring additional engineering investigation.
Laboratory Operations
- Prepare products for engineering evaluation, testing, and disassembly.
- Operate laboratory equipment and measurement instruments safely and accurately.
- Build simple test setups and fixtures supporting engineering investigations.
- Maintain laboratory work areas, tools, equipment, and documentation to ensure operational readiness.
- Support inventory and organization of post-market product samples and engineering reference materials.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product Evaluation Engineers to support ongoing engineering investigations.
- Work with Product Engineering to provide technical feedback from post-market product evaluations.
- Support Global Engineering teams by documenting findings and preparing products for additional analysis when required.
- Collaborate with Product Certification and Quality teams during investigations of field performance issues.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve evaluation methods, documentation, and laboratory processes.
- Support implementation of standardized engineering investigation procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product reliability and customer satisfaction.
- Develop technical knowledge of consumer products, engineering principles, and failure analysis techniques through on-the-job training and continuous learning.
Success Measures
- Timely completion of post-market product evaluations.
- Accurate documentation of engineering observations and investigation results.
- Identification of recurring product failure trends.
- Quality and completeness of engineering data supporting corrective actions.
- Contribution to continuous improvement of product quality and customer satisfaction.
- Effective collaboration with Product Engineering and Global Engineering teams.
Qualifications/skills:
Education
A foundation in engineering or a related technical field is required, through one of the following:
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Technology, Electronics Technology, or related technical field; or
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline; or
- Equivalent combination of technical education, skilled trades experience, or hands-on engineering support experience demonstrating the required competencies.

Environmental Factors:
- Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to use a computer keyboard and view a monitor for extended periods of time.
- This role requires on-site presence Monday – Friday in our Stamford CT location.
