Engineering Technologist I

Overview

We’re seeking an Engineering Technologist I to support Distribution Grid Operations by helping maintain the performance and reliability of control center systems and field devices. This role focuses on managing and supporting Distribution SCADA devices and related platforms such as SCADA, DMS, OMS, and other distribution control center (DCC) systems. Core operational activities include switching and controlVolt/Var optimization, and self-healing support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor & maintain substation and feeder SCADA devices; identify corrective actions and initiate maintenance requests.

  • Operate field devices as needed to support troubleshooting, restoration efforts, and field activities.

  • Commission new and replacement SCADA devices and support device deployment activities.

  • Assist with installation, programming, and maintenance of process system equipment supporting SCADA/DMS/OMS environments.

  • Diagnose and resolve software, hardware, and communications issues across real-time distribution process systems, networks, and communications technologies.

  • Ensure devices are accurately modeled into control center systems and support effective device utilization/relocation as needed.

  • Provide technical input to identify, analyze, and resolve operational and system issues.

  • Support planning and execution of work through effective estimating, scheduling, coordination, and monitoring.

  • Prepare technical documentation (reports, correspondence, calculations, sketches) and maintain accurate records/files.

  • Conduct engineering/technical studies and analysis as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent)
    OR Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent) with 0–2 years of related experience

  • Working knowledge or ability to quickly gain proficiency with:

    • SCADA / DMS / OMS concepts and operations

    • Field control equipment and distribution operations support practices

  • Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the electric utility industry

  • Experience and/or knowledge with Distribution SCADA and Distribution Management Systems (DMS)
