Objectives of this Role
- The high school English Language Arts (ELA) teacher will cultivate critical thinkers, proficient writers, and empathetic communicators by guiding students to analyze complex texts, articulate evidence-based arguments, and engage meaningfully with the world around them.
- The high school English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher will plan and implement engaging lessons in literature, composition, and critical thinking to help students build strong reading, writing, and communication skills.
Job Responsibilities
- Create a learning environment that reflects and promotes the mission of the School District of Athens
- Design and deliver dynamic lesson plans aligned with state and national standards. Teach various genres of literature, grammar, vocabulary, and writing styles (narrative, expository, persuasive, and analytical)
- Evaluate student essays, projects, and exams. Provide clear, constructive feedback to support academic growth and track progress
- Demonstrate strong knowledge and understanding of ELA concepts through a variety of academically rigorous and highly engaging instructional strategies, differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
- Align lesson planning with state standards and student assessment data, take responsibility for student progress, and respond effectively to individual students' academic and instructional needs.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment that encourages active student participation and civil discussion
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents
- Collaborate with peers, and respond to individual student needs
- Follow School Board policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned
Skills and Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in applicable discipline
- Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Teaching License English and Language Arts #1300
- Demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality
- Value relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community members
