The Maria L. Varisco-Rogers Charter School is seeking a passionate, dedicated, and student-centered English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality language instruction that empowers multilingual learners to develop English proficiency while achieving academic success across all content areas. Essential Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement, and assess engaging, standards-based ESL instruction aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards and the New Jersey English Language Development Standards.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students at varying levels of English language proficiency.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate language development across all academic content areas.
  • Develop and implement instructional strategies that promote language acquisition, literacy, and academic achievement.
  • Monitor student progress using multiple measures and maintain accurate records, including attendance, grades, language proficiency data, and required documentation.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and language development.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, professional development, and school improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with administrators, instructional staff, and support personnel to ensure multilingual learners receive appropriate services and support.
  • Support school-sponsored activities, family engagement events, field trips, and other community-building opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
Qualifications
Required
  • Valid New Jersey ESL Certification or eligibility for certification.
  • Valid New Jersey instructional certificate appropriate for the position.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Successful completion of the New Jersey Criminal History Background Check.
Preferred
  • Experience teaching multilingual learners in an elementary and/or middle school setting.
  • Knowledge of second-language acquisition strategies and culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Strong collaboration, classroom management, and communication skills.
  • Experience utilizing instructional technology to support language development.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive learning environment.
Salary

Starting at $60,170 annually
Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials.
