English Language Development (ELD) Teacher

Reports To: Director of Exceptional Learners

Location: Aurora, CO

Position Summary

The English Language Development (ELD) Manager is responsible for implementing the school's English Language Learner (ELL) program to ensure that multilingual learners receive high-quality instruction and support. This role includes compliance with federal and state regulations, collaboration with teachers, and direct student interventions to promote English language acquisition. The ELD Teacher collaborates with educators, families, and community partners to foster an inclusive and equitable learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Program implementation and compliance

  • Implement the school's English Language Development (ELD) program.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including Title III and ELD standards.
  • Monitor and support the identification, assessment, and placement of English Language Learners (ELLs).
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessments, and language proficiency levels.
  • Coordinate and oversee the administration of language proficiency assessments (e.g., WIDA ACCESS, ELPAC).
  • Create and implement strong lesson plans that reach all students.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support lesson planning and instruction for multilingual learners.
  • Model and support differentiated instruction strategies to meet the diverse needs of ELLs.

Student Support & Intervention

  • Develop and oversee targeted intervention programs for ELLs at different proficiency levels.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instructional supports as needed.
  • Collaborate with special education and student services teams to support ELLs with additional learning needs.
  • Ensure equitable access to grade-level content while supporting language development.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Build relationships with families of ELL students and provide resources to support language development at home.
  • Organize family workshops, translated materials, and outreach programs to engage multilingual families.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and community organizations that support English learners.
  • Advocate for the needs and success of ELLs within the school community.

Assessment & Data Analysis

  • Analyze student achievement data to drive instructional decisions and program improvements.
  • Collect data using formative and summative assessments to track language development.
  • Report student progress to school leadership and make data-informed recommendations for instructional strategies.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Education, TESOL, Linguistics, Bilingual Education, or a related field (preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification with an ESL, ELD, or bilingual endorsement (preferred).
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience working with English Language Learners in a K-8 setting.
  • Strong knowledge of language acquisition theories, ELD standards, and best practices.
  • Excellent collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Passion for educational equity and supporting multilingual learners.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in a charter school or urban education setting.
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Proficiency in a language other than English (preferred but not required).
  • Familiarity with instructional technology for ELLs.
