Job Summary:
English Language Learner (ELL) tutors work with students to help them learn English language skills, such as reading, writing, speaking, and listening. They may work with individuals or small groups of students in specific courses or academic skill areas. ELL tutors may also work directly with instructors, supporting the class as a whole or helping individual students who need extra help. ELL tutors should have knowledge of language acquisition theory, second language learning patterns, and best practices in English language development. They should also be patient, resilient, and have excellent communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide online and in-person tutoring to individuals and small groups.
Review organizational and study strategies with students.
Participate in departmental and inter-departmental meetings and attend in-service and other job-related training.
Refer students to college support services and other college departments when necessary.
Communicate with campus coordinator to ensure continued successful operation of the program.
Provide embedded tutoring support within assigned classrooms
Communicate regularly with ELL faculty
Document tutoring sessions using tutoring.
Assist in coordinating pre-semester outreach and study strategy services.
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum of an associate's degree or junior/senior year status at a four-year college or university.
Prior experience tutoring or teaching English Language Learners.
Preferred Requirements:
Preferred majors are English, Education, and World Languages.
Bachelor's degree in one of the above disciplines preferred.
Experience using Civitas, Blackboard Ultra, Zoom, WebEx
