POSITION DESCRIPTION
- To provide support and explicit instruction to English Language Learners through intervention, support and classroom instruction
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Assess students' skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans
- Teach listening, speaking, reading and writing through core content instruction based on the Tennessee Academic Standards for Language Arts and the WIDA Standards
- Administer required tests and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student language ability
- Develop individual learning plans based on data and implement the action steps in that plan by working closely with core content teachers
- Support ELL students with the core content of the grade level
- Provide instruction on language and speaking and writing daily
- Participate in a variety of meetings to convey and gain information to improve service to ELL students
- Maintain positive relationships with parents and community members
- Inform parents of progress and challenges to collaborate on best practices with each student
- Model effective communication with students
- Plan, prepare, implement, and assess instructional lessons based on the grade-level standards and the individual learning plan for each student
QUALIFICATIONS:- Appropriate Tennessee Teaching License with applicable endorsement
- Fluency in instruction in the following areas of the English language: listening, speaking, reading and writing
- Bachelors' Degree or higher in related field
Demonstrate Knowledge and Abilities- Knowledge of Second Language Acquisition theories
- Knowledge and appreciates of cultural differences and impact on student learning
- Effective communication skills
