TEACHER -Regular Education

LOCATION: Dulce Middle School

WORK YEAR: 185 days

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal

SUMMARY: To provide a flexible program and an environment that encourages learning and personnel growth by encouraging students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to obtain a sound foundation for continuous growth

QUALIFICATIONS: MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree
  • New Mexico Public Education (elementary/secondary) Teaching license
  • Endorsements required by the position
  • Bilingual/ESL/TESOL endorsement (preferred)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops and implements lesson/unit plans that address the content standards and benchmarks of the New Mexico Department of Education and Dulce Independent School Board of Education goals and objectives
  • Creates an environment for learning
  • Establishes clear objects for all lessons, assignments and units
  • Assesses students regularly to evaluate academic growth
  • Coordinates with the Special Education teacher for "Push In" services
  • Selects and maintains instructional materials
  • Develops and maintains a student behavior plan
  • Supervises students in the classroom and on campus
  • Gathers student academic date to develop strategies for improvement
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members in assisting students to solve academic, behavioral or health problems
  • Prescribes effective learning programs and initiates referrals when concerns arise
  • Participates in curriculum alignment
  • Develops and revises benchmarks and performance standards/assessment
  • Provides input for the EPSS / 90 day plans
  • Implements the EPSS / 90 day plans
  • Administers all federal, state and district mandated tests
  • Attends SAT and IEP meetings
  • Provides student documentation as needed for SAT and IEP meetings
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings
  • Participates on faculty committees
  • Sponsors student activities
  • Records and sends out student grades on progress reports quarterly
  • Prepares report cards quarterly
  • Documents grades on cumulative files
  • Communicates with parents to discuss student academic progress, behavior and instructional program
  • Participates the NMTEACH Teacher Evaluation Framework
  • Participates in professional development and training
  • Provides directions and materials for substitute teachers
  • Supervises classroom assistants, guests and volunteers
  • Performs other duties as assigned

DUTIES: In addition to the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must perform the following duties:

  • Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
  • Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Jemez Mountain Public Schools.
  • Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations.
  • Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.
  • Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.
  • Maintains professional competence through individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within area of responsibility.
  • Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor.

REQUIRED PRE-EMPLOYMENT AND OTHER EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Satisfactory completion of criminal background verification

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others
  • Knowledge of word processing, database and spreadsheet software

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an incumbent encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:

  • The incumbent will work with staff members in a team environment which may include the administrative staff, State department personnel, legal counsel, parents, students, advocates and others outside the District.
