Requirements / Qualifications

This individual will offer enrichment opportunities for students TK - 8 (25 - 30 hours per week) Provide students opportunities to learn about the life cycle of plants through preparing garden beds, investigating soil and identifying living things in the soil that support composting and soil health. Weather and water: how does this impact the growth of plants in the garden? How do we determine the amount of water plants need and when and how is this managed? Plants: Students experience the entire cycle of the plant, starting with planting seeds, watering and maintaining early plants, transplanting into the garden beds, care of the plants as they grow, and finally harvest. Students have the opportunity to taste the food that they have grown. Garden Sale: Oversee the harvest of the produce and flowers. Work with leadership students to price, prepare the produce for sale and manage the after school sale of the produce. Plant Sale: Once plants have been transplanted into the garden beds, remaining plants are sold to families to start their own at home gardens. Oversee the plant selection, preparation, and plant sale with leadership students. Understanding grade level standards for science, math and technology to incorporate activities involving engineering, design, prediction, implementation, and experimentation of projects that incorporate these standards. Work with teachers to supplement the learning in the classroom with activities designed to provide students with experiential learning opportunities. Work with teachers to design a project that incorporates multiple learning targets for ALPS students. Project design includes writing, model design and build, technology presentations, art, and are anchored in relatable and relevant topics. Works with classroom teachers to provide small group math support for students either for acceleration or extra support for students who are struggling with certain concepts.
