Overview:
PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Enterprise Data Steward at our Tysons, Virginia or San Antonio, Texas location. The primary purpose of this job is to drive adoption of PenFed’s Enterprise Data Governance procedures by working with Business Data Stewards. The position is part of the hub for the organization, with spokes into the various Business Units. This role will enable building Enterprise Business Glossary that is normalized and useful, help build common business data taxonomy, guide business data stewards in building the data quality monitoring projects, track and co-ordinate resolution of enterprise level data quality issues. The position will also help mature the data management program including management of the critical data asset and elements repository in alignment with the industry standard Financial Industry Business Data Model.

- Execute on established multi-tiered Data Governance operating model, engaging lines of business leadership, data owners, data stewards and key enterprise functions.
- Identify areas of improvements to existing operational processes, and design and build solutions to ensure data governance processes run efficiently.
- Be the change agent to enable user adoption of Data Governance processes, procedures, controls such as those related to metadata, data quality, and data ownership.
- Manage Enterprise Data Quality issues from identification to closure, in partnership with Business Data Stewards and Data Custodians. This includes completion of root cause analysis, business impact assessment, prioritization and tracking of remediation plans.
- Champion defining data quality expectations, identification of data quality gaps.
- Standardize the business glossary, data dictionaries, relationships, mappings, and data flows and data lineage.
- Identification and management of critical data elements inventory; including its alignment with industry standards.
- Advise business data stewards in their adherence to Data Retention & Archival, Sensitive Data Handling, Data Sharing, 3rd Party Data Management processes and procedures.
- Define acceptable usage of data and drive consistency in interpretation and usage of data.
- Lead benchmarking of the PenFed’s data governance program maturity against the industry standard models.
Qualifications:
Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems or business management required, Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in data governance and management.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in data stewardship, preferably in retaining banking institution.
- Experience writing and maintaining data governance processes, standards, best practices.
- Experience working with internal stakeholders in running a successful data governance program.
- Extensive experience of working on any Data Governance and Management industry solution, preferably Ataccama.
- Must possess strong analytical skills to evaluate data quality issues and process challenges and provide options for resolution.
- Strong technical background to work effectively with Data Platform and Data Engineering teams to enhance and mature the Data Governance toolkit.
- Strong knowledge of data management concepts including metadata, data quality, data lineage, data archival, data retention, data sharing, sensitive data handling.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to work with all management levels, especially the ability to message in a concise and understandable way.
- Must have experience in creating processes, procedures, job aids for enterprise rollout.
- Experience of working with internal audit and external auditors.
- Knowledge and experience of working in Reference/Master Data management efforts will be an added advantage.
- Experience with AI preferred.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position will not supervise staff.
Licenses and Certifications
Certification in any Data Governance tool is preferred
CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) certification is preferred
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

Travel
Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call may be required.
