Job Summary:
Role Overview
The Enterprise Epic Systems Architect is responsible for defining, governing, and evolving the enterprise level architecture of the Epic ecosystem across the organization. This role provides strategic and technical leadership across clinical, revenue cycle, and ancillary domains, ensuring Epic solutions are scalable, interoperable, secure, and aligned with broader digital health and business strategy.
The Architect serves as a trusted advisor to IT, clinical, and executive leadership, bridging the gap between operational needs and technical design while reducing complexity and technical debt across the Epic landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Epic Architecture
Strategy
Own the enterprise architecture vision for Epic applications across clinical, revenue cycle, and ancillary domains
Define and maintain architecture standards, design patterns, and guardrails for Epic implementations and enhancements
Translate clinical and business requirements into scalable, enterprise ready Epic designs
Integration
Interoperability
Architect and govern Epic integrations using Interconnect, Bridges, HL7, FHIR, APIs, and third party platforms
Ensure seamless interoperability between Epic and external systems (labs, imaging, payers, HIEs, digital health tools)
Lead architectural reviews for complex integrations and cross platform workflows
Platform Governance
Optimization
Guide Epic upgrades, expansions, module rollouts, and major transformations
Partner with infrastructure and platform teams across on prem, hosted, and hybrid environments
Proactively identify architectural risks, performance bottlenecks, and opportunities for simplification
Security, Reliability
Compliance
Ensure Epic architecture aligns with HIPAA, security, privacy, and compliance requirements
Design for high availability, disaster recovery, resiliency, and performance
Collaborate closely with security and compliance teams on enterprise controls and risk mitigation
Leadership
Collaboration
Act as a senior technical advisor to IT leadership, Epic program leaders, and clinical informatics teams
Mentor and guide consultants, engineers, and architects
Serve as an escalation point for high impact Epic architectural challenges
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
8-12+ years of progressive healthcare IT experience, including 5+ years in Epic based environments
3+ years in an Epic Architect, Enterprise Architect, or Senior Epic Technical Lead role
Experience supporting 3 or more Epic modules across clinical, revenue cycle, or ancillary domains
Demonstrated ownership of enterprise scale Epic architecture supporting 10,000+ users and/or multi entity health systems
Proven delivery of 10+ complex Epic integrations utilizing Interconnect, Bridges, HL7, FHIR, and APIs
Experience leading architectural design or governance for major Epic upgrades, rollouts, or platform expansions
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage clinical leaders, IT teams, and executive stakeholders (VP+ / C level)
Preferred Qualifications
1-3 active Epic certifications (clinical, revenue cycle, or integration focus preferred)
Experience supporting multi hospital health systems (5+ facilities) or enterprise Epic implementations
Exposure to cloud, hosted, or hybrid infrastructure models supporting Epic at scale
Prior experience in architecture governance, standards definition, or technical oversight roles
Track record of mentoring or leading teams of 5-15 Epic analysts, engineers, or architects
Equivalent experience will be considered in place of formal Epic certifications for candidates with demonstrated enterprise level Epic leadership
