Job Title Description
The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI), operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA), is NASA's science operations center for missions including the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescopes. STScI leads observation planning, data analysis, public engagement, and data archiving for flagship missions. Our staff include experts in astronomy, engineering, education, information technology, communications, and administration who work together to advance and share discoveries from space.
STScI is seeking an Enterprise Technology Lead to set the direction for enterprise information technology across the institute, drive modernization, and serve as the institute’s senior IT advisor across mission, engineering, and business functions.
This position supports hybrid or fully remote work arrangements. Candidates must reside in MD, DE, VA, PA, DC, or WV. Hybrid staff are expected on-site a minimum of three days per week.
U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required; ITAR clearance required.
Enterprise Technology Lead Role and Responsibilities
This role is ideal for a senior information technology leader who operates at enterprise altitude while remaining willing and able to engage substantively with technical work when the situation demands it.
The Enterprise Technology Lead reports to the Head of IT and co-chairs the enterprise technology governance body. The position emphasizes strategic technology direction, modernization leadership, portfolio and financial discipline, and trusted advisory engagement across the institute. This is a hands-on leadership role that blends strategy with execution, working closely with Chief Engineers, mission leadership, IT operations, and division stakeholders to ensure technology decisions are coherent, sustainable, and aligned with the institute’s long-term direction.

Salary range is $180,000 to $195,000. Final compensation is based on experience, skills, internal equity, and market conditions. The posted salary range represents a general guideline. STScI considers several factors when determining salary offers, including internal equity, position scope and responsibilities, candidate qualifications, experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
