THE ROLE
The Technical Project Drafter transforms technical concepts, engineering direction, and field information into the precise drawings and documentation that bring VAI’s entertainment experiences to life.
Working closely with the Technical Project Engineer, this role creates and maintains the CAD, BIM, and Revit documentation needed to design, coordinate, construct, install, commission, and ultimately operate VAI’s entertainment technology systems.
You will work at the intersection of entertainment, design, engineering, construction, and technology, helping turn ideas and technical requirements into drawings that people can understand, build from, and rely on.
This isn't simply a drafting job. Your drawings become the roadmap for how VAI's technology gets built.
At VAI, your drawings aren't just documentation. They're the blueprint for the experience.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Technical Drafting & Documentation
Produce detailed CAD, BIM, and Revit drawings for entertainment technology systems under the direction of the Technical Project Engineer.
Develop and maintain floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, sections, elevations, details, single-line drawings, and system schematics.
Create equipment layouts, rack elevations, cable diagrams, conduit layouts, device locations, and infrastructure drawings.
Translate engineering sketches, markups, redlines, field notes, and design concepts into accurate, professional technical drawings.
Update drawings throughout design, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
Ensure drawings are properly dimensioned, labeled, referenced, coordinated, and formatted for construction and installation.
Help transform complex technical information into documentation that is clear and easy for others to understand and use.
Maintain consistency and accuracy across large, complex drawing packages.
BIM & Project Coordination
Support BIM and Revit coordination of entertainment systems with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, IT, and other building disciplines.
Incorporate coordinated backgrounds and consultant models into entertainment technology drawing packages.
Assist the Technical Project Engineer in identifying drawing conflicts, inconsistencies, and potential coordination issues.
Update models and drawings based on coordination meetings, clash detection results, RFIs, field conditions, and design revisions.
Maintain alignment between system schematics, equipment layouts, infrastructure drawings, and architectural plans.
Assist with coordinating device locations, pathways, equipment rooms, technical spaces, and infrastructure requirements.
Help ensure that what is shown on the drawing makes sense alongside everything else being built around it.
Construction & Field Support
A great drafter understands that the drawing eventually leaves the computer and enters the real world.
Assist with preparing drawing revisions and supplemental details required during construction.
Work with the Technical Project Engineer and field teams to ensure drawing packages reflect current project conditions.
Incorporate approved field changes, redlines, and revised information into project documentation.
Maintain accurate revision histories throughout construction.
Assist with documentation required for commissioning, testing, system turnover, and project closeout.
Participate in field walks and site visits as needed to understand existing conditions and verify information.
Help identify when field conditions differ from the drawings and communicate those discrepancies to the appropriate project team members.
Develop the technical documentation needed to help installation teams know what goes where, how it connects, and what the finished system should look like.
Standards & Quality
Follow and maintain VAI Integrated Productions' drafting standards, templates, title blocks, layer conventions, Revit families, symbols, and drawing organization.
Help continually improve drafting standards and documentation practices as VAI's entertainment technology department evolves.
Ensure consistency in drawing presentation across projects and entertainment technology disciplines.
Perform preliminary quality-control reviews for drawing completeness, accuracy, formatting, and coordination before engineering review.
Maintain organized project files, drawing directories, and document-control systems.
Follow established revision-management procedures and ensure the latest approved information is reflected in current drawing sets.
Take pride in getting the details right because small errors can create big problems in the field.
As-Built & Lifecycle Documentation
The work you do during development becomes part of VAI's long-term technical memory.
Update drawings to reflect final installed conditions and approved field modifications.
Produce and maintain accurate record and as-built drawing sets.
Assist with organizing and archiving final CAD, BIM, Revit, PDF, and technical documentation.
Ensure final documentation can support operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, renovations, and future system upgrades.
Help maintain accurate documentation of property-wide entertainment technology infrastructure.
Understand that the drawings you create today may be used years from now by someone troubleshooting, modifying, or expanding a VAI entertainment system.
WHAT YOU BRING
2–5 years of experience in technical drafting, CAD/BIM production, entertainment technology, AV, low-voltage systems, construction, or a related technical field.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and experience producing construction or technical drawing packages.
Working knowledge of Revit and BIM workflows.
Experience with Vectorworks is preferred.
Familiarity with audio, video, lighting, control, networking, or low-voltage system documentation.
Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, structural, mechanical, and technology drawings.
Understanding of construction documentation, drawing revisions, redlines, RFIs, and as-built documentation.
Experience with large-scale entertainment venues, hospitality developments, resorts, casinos, theme parks, attractions, or similarly complex projects is preferred.
The VAI Way
Collaboration: You understand that your drawing is one piece of a much bigger experience being created by many people.
Ownership: You take responsibility for the accuracy and quality of your work and speak up when something doesn't look right.
