Position Title: Entertainment Technology Lab Technician FLSA: Non-Exempt FTPT: Part Time Hours Per Week: Up to 25 Work Schedule: Monday-Friday Position Salary Range: $24-26 hourly

Summary The Entertainment Technology Lab Manager is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and support of Entertainment Technology (ENTE) laboratories and related instructional technology used in ENTE, Theatre, Music programs, and other courses with AV-intensive instructional needs. This position ensures that ENTE facilities and equipment are safe, functional, and aligned with curricular objectives and provides technical support to faculty, staff, and students for instructional activities.

Essential Role Responsibilities

ENTE Lab & Equipment Management

  • Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of ENTE labs and instructional spaces, which may include time supporting performing arts spaces in HCCs Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center.
  • Install, configure, test, maintain, and troubleshoot ENTE/AV equipment, including audio systems, video systems, lighting control, projection, streaming, recording, and digital media hardware and software.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of ENTE/AV equipment, tools, software licenses, and consumable supplies.
  • Coordinate equipment check-out/check-in procedures and ensure proper handling, storage, and security of equipment.
  • Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs; coordinate vendor service and repairs as needed.

Instructional & Technical Support

  • Provide hands-on technical support for Entertainment Technology and other courses requiring AV support, including classroom instruction, labs, rehearsals, performances, recordings, and presentations.
  • Assist faculty with setup, operation, and integration of ENTE/AV technologies into instruction and coursework.
  • Support student learning by providing technical guidance, demonstrations, and troubleshooting assistance during labs and projects.
  • Assist with the implementation of new technologies and instructional tools to support evolving curricular needs.

Facility & Systems Support

  • Support ENTE/AV systems in performance venues, classrooms, studios, and event spaces as assigned.
  • Assist with setup, operation, and strike for departmental events, performances, workshops, and special programs as needed.
  • Support ENTE labs and workspaces compliance with safety standards, accessibility requirements, and institutional policies.

Training & Supervision of Students

  • Train and supervise student workers, lab assistants, or work-study employees as applicable.
  • Develop and maintain user documentation, equipment guides, safety procedures, and lab policies.
  • Promote best practices in equipment use, care, and workflow.

Planning, Coordination & Administration

  • Collaborate with faculty, program, and department leadership, IT, facilities, and other campus partners to support instructional and production needs.
  • Assist with planning for equipment upgrades, replacements, and new lab initiatives; provide technical recommendations and cost estimates.
  • Monitor usage patterns and recommend improvements to lab operations and resource allocation.

Other Duties

  • Stay current with emerging ENTE/AV media and instructional technologies relevant to higher education and entertainment technology.
  • Assist with accreditation documentation, program reviews, or audits related to facilities and technical resources as requested.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of departmental and institutional goals.

Knowledge Required

  • Experience in Audio-Visual Technology, Entertainment Technology, Media Production, Theatre Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with professional or instructional AV systems and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of audio, video, lighting, projection, and basic networking concepts.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff in an instructional environment.

Minimum Education Required

  • High School or equivalent

Experience Required

  • Preferred: Effective communication both verbally and in writing with a wide variety of audiences, including students, faculty, staff, and administration.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Physical Demand Summary

  • Moving and lifting heavy equipment and materials.

  • Occasional exposure to high voltages and some hazardous chemicals.
  • Some lengthy repetitive office functions, keyboarding, viewing computer screens.
