Job Description

ROLE

The Technical Project Engineer turns creative entertainment concepts into the technical plans, systems, and documentation that make them real.

This is a highly collaborative, hands-on role. You will work alongside entertainment designers, engineers, architects, consultants, integrators, contractors, construction teams, and Technical Project Drafters to solve problems, coordinate systems, and keep projects moving.

You won't just produce drawings. You'll understand what the drawings need to accomplish, why they matter, and what happens when the plan meets the real world.

At VAI, we're not just building systems. We're building the infrastructure behind experiences people will remember.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Technical Design & Engineering

Translate creative concepts, system requirements, operational needs, and technical specifications into clear, coordinated, buildable entertainment technology documentation.

Develop and maintain CAD, BIM, and Revit documentation for entertainment systems including audio, video, lighting, control, networking, and supporting infrastructure.

Produce and oversee floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, sections, elevations, equipment layouts, system details, single-line drawings, technical schematics, and other construction documentation.

Develop equipment schedules, rack elevations, cable diagrams, conduit layouts, device layouts, equipment-room layouts, and infrastructure documentation.

Establish equipment locations, technical spaces, pathways, connectivity, power requirements, and other infrastructure requirements.

Review designs with a critical eye toward functionality, constructability, serviceability, maintainability, and future expansion.

Ensure technical documentation clearly communicates system intent to contractors, installers, integrators, and construction teams.

Look ahead and identify technical challenges before they become expensive field problems.

Coordination & Integration

Participate in interdisciplinary BIM coordination meetings, design reviews, technical coordination sessions, and project meetings.

Review architectural and consultant models and compare them against current field conditions.

Support BIM coordination and clash detection to identify conflicts before construction.

Coordinate device locations, equipment rooms, pathways, conduit, structural requirements, power, network infrastructure, and other supporting systems.

Identify conflicts between entertainment systems and other disciplines and work collaboratively to develop solutions.

Coordinate technical requirements with integration managers, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, and construction teams.

Track coordination issues through resolution and ensure approved changes are accurately reflected in project documentation.

Help ensure technical systems remain aligned with both architectural/design intent and the realities of how the systems will ultimately operate.

Construction & Field Support

This is not a desk-only engineering role. You need to be comfortable getting out into the field and seeing how the design becomes reality.

Support constructability reviews to ensure entertainment technology designs can be efficiently and accurately built.

Review actual construction conditions and identify installation, access, coordination, serviceability, or technical concerns.

Respond to RFIs and provide timely technical clarification related to entertainment technology systems and infrastructure.

Develop sketches, details, drawing revisions, and supplemental documentation to address real-world construction conditions.

Work directly with construction and integration teams to resolve field conflicts and installation challenges.

Support field verification of critical dimensions, device locations, equipment rooms, pathways, and infrastructure.

Participate in field walks, site inspections, coordination meetings, installation reviews, and other project activities.

Provide accurate and timely technical information to installation teams throughout construction.

Understand that a great drawing is only great if it works in the field.

Technical Leadership & Drafter Oversight

Provide day-to-day technical direction to Technical Project Drafters supporting assigned projects.

Assign and prioritize drafting and documentation activities based on project requirements, priorities, and schedules.

Review drawings produced by drafters for technical accuracy, completeness, coordination, consistency, and compliance with project standards.

Coordinate drafting resources across multiple projects and priorities.

Coach and develop drafters in technical documentation, coordination, and entertainment technology standards.

Help establish workflows that improve drawing quality, consistency, speed, and efficiency.

Standards, Quality & Documentation

Develop, maintain, and improve VAI's engineering and drafting standards, templates, title blocks, layer conventions, Revit families, symbols, and documentation procedures.

Establish consistent documentation methodologies across audio, video, lighting, control, networking, and infrastructure systems.

Perform detailed quality-control reviews before technical documents are issued.

Ensure revisions and technical changes are properly documented, communicated, and incorporated.

Maintain organized document control, drawing registers, revision histories, and project records.

Build and maintain reusable technical resources including drawing details, CAD blocks, Revit families, templates, schedules, and other tools that make the team better and faster.

As-Built & Lifecycle Readiness

Maintain accurate record and as-built documentation reflecting final installed conditions.

Review contractor and field redlines and ensure approved changes are incorporated into final drawing sets.

Coordinate final documentation following installation, commissioning, and project closeout.

Ensure CAD, BIM, Revit, PDF, schematic, and other technical documentation is properly organized and archived.

Maintain accurate records of technical spaces, equipment locations, pathways, infrastructure, and system configurations.

Support the transition from project delivery to long-term resort operations by ensuring VAI has the technical information needed to maintain, troubleshoot, modify, and expand its entertainment systems.

WHAT YOU BRING

8–10 years of experience in technical engineering, system design, drafting, documentation, professional AV, entertainment technology, low-voltage systems, or a related field.

Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD.

Working experience with Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and BIM coordination workflows.

Ability to navigate, review, mark up, coordinate, and interpret entertainment system information within Revit and BIM environments.

Experience producing technical documentation for audio, video, lighting, control, communications, networking, and related systems.

Experience coordinating drawings and technical information throughout design and construction.

Strong understanding of entertainment technology installation and construction practices.

Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, technical drawings, system diagrams, equipment schedules, and related documentation.

Experience with entertainment venues, resorts, hospitality projects, arenas, theaters, attractions, or similarly complex facilities is preferred.

The VAI Way

Collaboration: You understand that extraordinary entertainment experiences are built by teams, not individuals.

Ownership: You don't walk past a problem because it isn't technically yours. You help solve it.

Resiliency: When the field doesn't match the drawing, you don't panic—you figure it out.

Enthusiasm: You are genuinely excited by entertainment, technology, and the opportunity to build something people haven't experienced before.

Vision: You understand that today's technical documentation is creating the foundation for tomorrow's VAI experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to regularly walk throughout a large resort and entertainment environment, including construction and back-of-house areas.

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during site walks, inspections, coordination meetings, installation reviews, and commissioning activities.

Ability to safely navigate stairs, uneven surfaces, active construction areas, equipment rooms, backstage environments, and other areas where entertainment systems are being installed or operated.

Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting construction or operational areas.

Ability to work in environments with varying levels of noise, lighting, temperature, and other conditions associated with construction and live entertainment.

Ability to occasionally work evenings, weekends, holidays, or extended hours during critical project milestones, installations, commissioning, rehearsals, or openings.

Ability to travel as needed for project meetings, site visits, vendor meetings, or other business requirements.

Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
