Brief Description
The City is offering a Sign-On Bonus for Bus Mechanics: $500 with first paycheck and 2% of gross earnings during first year of employment at first anniversary.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday through Friday, rotating shifts of 1:30pm to 10:30pm and 4:30pm to 1:30am; occasional Saturdays.
This position is eligible for overtime.
In addition, a shift differential of $1.00/hour will be paid for working the following hours:
Job Summary
Under immediate direction and in compliance with straightforward and standardized policies and procedures, performs manufacturer specified preventive maintenance services and safety checks on Transit and Service vehicles. Repairs and/or replaces vehicle parts and components as needed. Documents all maintenance and repairs by completing a check sheet for each service provided as well as inputs service and repair data into the into the fleet management system. Secures the necessary repair parts from the parts room. Assists other mechanics with assignments such as fluid and filter changes, change tires, exhaust system components, driveline components, brakes and suspension repairs, basic electrical repair, engine tune-ups, and basic manufacturer maintenance services. Responds to basic field service calls as needed. Assists in cleaning and organizing of the shop area as well as maintaining shop equipment. All tools and equipment provided. Uniforms & laundry service, steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs (as needed), and gloves provided.

Job Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least six (6) months of prior automotive repair experience.
OR completion of a technical automotive or diesel technology training/certification program.
OR completion of a City of Greenville mechanic internship.
Completion of mechanic competency classification test at minimum of level I within six (6) months of hire.

Primary Work Location: Fleet Maintenance or Transit Bus Shop. Occasional outside work.
Protective Equipment Required: Steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs (as needed), and gloves (all provided).
Environmental/Health and Safety Factors: Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work. Daily exposure to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, and physical hazards. Constant exposure to mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards. Frequent exposure to fire hazards and communicable diseases.
Physical Demands: Continuously requires standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, balancing, bending, hearing, twisting, and talking. Frequently requires kneeling, crawling, foot controls, and crouching. Occasionally requires sitting, and handling. Very Heavy strength demands include exerting over 100 pounds occasionally, 50-100 pounds frequently, or from 20 up to 50 pounds constantly.
Mental Demands: Frequently requires time pressures, frequent change of tasks, irregular schedule/overtime, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, working closely with others as part of a team, tedious or exacting work, and noisy/distracting environment. Occasionally requires emergency situations.
