Job Description

  • Support the planning, engineering, and design of electric and gas distribution systems to meet reliability and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in determining the need, size, location, and timing of power delivery infrastructure development, balancing economic, environmental, social, and regulatory constraints.
  • Develop work packages for overhead distribution, underground distribution, and residential distribution projects.
  • Perform field engineering activities, including site visits and field inspections, to gather data and verify project requirements.
  • Identify and document conflicting utilities and existing infrastructure conditions in the field and incorporate findings into design plans.
  • Prepare and update engineering and design calculations for distribution projects using established procedures and standards.
  • Support the design of power distribution and electrical distribution systems, including underground cable and conduit layouts.
  • Use AutoCAD to create, review, and modify distribution design drawings and documentation.
  • Apply basic understanding of GIS tools to interpret and utilize geospatial data in distribution design work.
  • Follow established engineering procedures, policies, and standards to solve simple, routine technical problems.
  • Participate in post-construction reviews to confirm that installations align with design specifications and project requirements.
  • Communicate with peers and project team members to explain design decisions, share basic analysis, and coordinate work activities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and utility clients to clarify project scope, resolve design issues, and support project delivery.
  • Travel to project sites for field visits and site investigations, primarily in northern and central New Jersey.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience, with up to 1+ years of electrical engineering experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical engineering principles and their application to power distribution systems.
  • Experience or coursework related to electrical design and power distribution.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for design and drafting of distribution systems.
  • Understanding of GIS and the ability to interpret and apply geospatial information in design work.
  • Ability to perform field inspections, site investigations, and field engineering tasks for distribution projects.
  • Capability to identify and document conflicting utilities and field conditions during site visits.
  • Ability to follow established engineering procedures, policies, and standards to solve routine technical problems.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with peers, project teams, and utility stakeholders.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly for field visits and site investigations, primarily within northern and central New Jersey.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Trenton, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $27.00/hr.
