Entry Level Environmental Scientist (Environmental Consulting: Remediation, Solid Waste Design, Facilities and Permitting) - (Late Fall Start) - Goshen, NY or Woodbridge, NJ

Tetra Tech is adding an Entry-Level Environmental Scientist with an interest in environmental consulting and compliance, with a focus on remediation and environmental monitoring.

This position will be based near our Goshen, New York, or Woodbridge, New Jersey office and provides an excellent opportunity for an early-career scientist to gain hands-on experience supporting environmental projects while working alongside experienced scientists, engineers, geologists, and other technical professionals.

In this role, you will apply your interest in environmental science while gaining hands-on experience across a variety of environmental projects. Project work may include environmental investigation and remediation, air quality testing and emissions monitoring, environmental monitoring, data analysis, and technical report preparation.

You will work alongside experienced professionals who will support the development of your technical and consulting skills, with opportunities to take on increasing levels of responsibility as your career progresses.

Position Summary:

As part of a multidisciplinary team of scientists, geologists, engineers, designers, and technical specialists, you will support environmental investigation and remediation projects throughout Northern New Jersey.

This position will involve a combination of field and office-based technical work, with more than 50% of the role consisting of field work. Field assignments may include environmental sampling and monitoring, site investigations, drilling oversight, groundwater sampling, and soil sampling. Office responsibilities may include environmental data management and evaluation, preparation of tables and figures, technical report preparation, permitting support, and development of project documentation.

The successful candidate will be a motivated early-career professional who can work effectively both independently and as part of a team, is comfortable working outdoors and at project sites, and is interested in developing a career in environmental assessment and remediation consulting.

Essential Job Functions:

• Support environmental site investigation, remediation, compliance, and solid waste projects.
• Perform environmental field sampling and monitoring activities, including soil, sediment, groundwater, and surface water sampling, as applicable.
• Operate and maintain environmental field instruments and sampling equipment.
• Accurately document field activities and maintain complete field records.
• Assist with environmental monitoring programs and the preparation of monitoring plans.
• Collect, organize, review, and evaluate environmental monitoring and investigation data.
• Assist with data management, including the preparation of data tables, figures, maps, and other project documentation.
• Analyze environmental reports, maps, drawings, aerial photographs, and other technical information.
• Assist with the preparation of technical reports, permit applications, work plans, specifications, and other project deliverables.
• Assist engineers and other technical professionals with design-related calculations and project documentation, as applicable.
• Support the preparation of construction plans and drawings using AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D, as applicable.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, field personnel, laboratories, subcontractors, and other project team members.
• Follow Tetra Tech health and safety procedures and applicable site-specific health and safety plans.
• Manage assigned workloads in consultation with supervisors and Project Managers to ensure assignments are completed within required schedules and budgets.
• Travel to project sites throughout Northern New Jersey, as project needs require.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or Geological Engineering.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Self-motivated and disciplined, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
• Strong personal integrity.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in a civil or environmental engineering role.
• Experience in landfill design, permitting, or environmental monitoring.
• Knowledge of environmental regulations.

Physical Requirements:

• Regularly required to sit and work at a computer for extended periods; occasional standing and walking within the office environment.
• Occasionally required to lift/move up to 10 lbs, with infrequent lifting of up to 25 lbs.
• Requires use of hands for typing, handling materials, and operating office equipment; vision abilities include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• May occasionally travel to field sites (approximately 10-30% of the time), which can involve walking on uneven terrain and slopes up to 2:1 or 3:1 grade.
• When in the field, must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including a respirator if required, and may need to meet medical clearance standards based on assignment.

Additional Information:

• Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle for local and regional travel to sites, Tetra Tech offices, and client offices, on an as-needed basis.
• Willingness to work in one of Tetra Tech's offices is preferred but not required; hybrid and remote work situations are possible, with the understanding that reporting to an office setting or field setting will be required at times.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future. Pay: $64,000 - 68,000 annually, commensurate with skill level, geography region and experience.
