Texas Prisons Community Advocates (TPCA) Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving incarcerated individuals and their impacted families, and to empower all through increased awareness, education, and collaboration, thereby creating effective advocates who can advance humane conditions within the Texas prison system.

TPCA is seeking an Entry-Level Recruitment volunteer. This position offers meaningful experience in nonprofit communications and HRM. This volunteer will assist the Senior Recruiter in managing events (tabling) and recruitment assistants, conducting intake interviews, tracking recruitment processes, and assessing general readiness, fit, alignment, placement, and safety. This position is designed to be a learning experience that helps volunteers build professional communication skills and technical writing, while contributing to mission-driven work.

This position is unpaid until funded.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct virtual interviews with potential volunteers and interns
  • Assist with virtual and in-person tabling events (if applicable)
  • Support efforts to track and retain interviewee information
  • Evaluate and highlight the interviewee's readiness and fit for the position

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Practice with recruitment software, or the ability to learn
  • Reliability, organization, and time management skills
  • Openness to feedback and revision

This position is well-suited for volunteers with experience in the following areas:

· Human Resources

· Communications

· Marketing

Anyone with strong writing skills and an interest in advocacy is =encouraged to apply.

Mentoring & Supervision

· One-on-one supervision from an experienced public/nonprofit recruiter

· Ongoing feedback on writing and professional communication

· Supportive guidance to help volunteers meet career goals and deadlines

Learning Objectives

Through this experience, volunteerswill:

  • Develop interpersonal and negotiation skills to actively listen and support prospective candidates while adhering to ethical standards.
  • Learn marketing and brand representation skills by using compelling messaging to promote TPCA's mission and digitally connect with peers
  • Gain experience operating effectively within professional environments to represent nonprofit work.

Time Commitment

· Schedule: Part-time

· Hours: 10-15 hours per week

· Estimated Start Date: 7/1/2026
