We are seeking a detail-oriented and environmentally conscious Environmental Compliance Inspector to conduct inspections, monitor regulatory compliance, identify environmental risks, and help ensure that facilities, projects, and operations meet applicable environmental laws and permit requirements.
Compensation for this position is $60,000–$80,000 per year, depending on experience, technical expertise, certifications, education, and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine and specialized environmental compliance inspections of facilities, construction sites, industrial operations, and other regulated locations.
- Evaluate compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, permits, policies, and standards.
- Inspect activities involving air emissions, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, and other regulated environmental areas.
- Identify potential violations, environmental hazards, and areas of non-compliance.
- Collect photographs, samples, measurements, records, and other evidence during inspections.
- Review environmental permits, monitoring records, manifests, reports, inspection logs, and other compliance documentation.
- Prepare clear and accurate inspection reports, findings, corrective-action notices, and recommendations.
- Work with facility managers, contractors, environmental professionals, and regulatory agencies to address compliance issues.
- Monitor corrective actions and verify that deficiencies are resolved within required timeframes.
- Assist with environmental audits, compliance assessments, and regulatory investigations.
- Support environmental sampling and monitoring activities as required.
- Maintain accurate inspection records and regulatory documentation.
- Stay informed about changes to applicable environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
- Participate in environmental emergency response activities when necessary.
- Provide guidance and education to employees and operational teams regarding environmental compliance requirements.
- Maintain professional relationships with regulatory agencies, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources, Environmental Health, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in environmental compliance, inspections, environmental consulting, regulatory enforcement, or a related field.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Familiarity with environmental permits, inspections, reporting, and compliance documentation.
- Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work independently in field environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and environmental reporting or inspection software.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to inspection sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with EPA regulations and programs.
- Knowledge of Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, stormwater, SPCC, and hazardous-material requirements.
- Experience conducting environmental compliance audits or regulatory inspections.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements and field safety procedures.
- Environmental certifications or professional credentials are a plus.
- Experience using GIS, GPS, environmental sampling equipment, or inspection databases.
- Previous experience working with government agencies, manufacturing facilities, construction projects, utilities, or industrial operations.
Physical & Field Requirements
- Ability to travel regularly to field and inspection locations.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to walk, climb stairs, navigate uneven terrain, and access industrial or construction areas.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Occasional evening, weekend, or emergency-response work may be required.
