Performs difficult professional and supervisory work managing the water reclamation facility laboratory, industrial pre-treatment program oversight, residuals management, stormwater management, FOG program and compliance records and reporting for the City.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class is responsible for managing the water reclamation facility laboratory; industrial pre-treatment monitoring; compliance reporting with the State on wastewater; fats, oils and grease monitoring (FOG) program; residuals treatment and disposal; and related environmental programs for City utilities. Work involves monitoring state and federal regulatory requirements and researching and instituting program changes to comply; preparation and renewal of wastewater, land application, collection systems permits as required; initiating and tracking changes to existing permits and/or ordinances; and preparing a variety of schedules, records, standard operating procedures, response plans, analyses and reports as required by the state. The employee is subject to hazards associated with wastewater and chemical work including exposure to electrical current, and chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. Work is also subject to the final standards of OSHA on blood borne pathogens. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated through periodic conferences, reports, performance reviews and reviewed for conformance to testing and reporting procedures and accuracy.
