At Sibanye-Stillwater, every role supports our mission to operate safely, responsibly, and sustainably. We are seeking an Environmental Compliance/Sustainability Engineer II to support environmental compliance programs and sustainability initiatives across our operations.

This role focuses on regulatory compliance, environmental reporting, emissions tracking, permit management, sustainability performance, and continuous improvement initiatives that help reduce environmental impact while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Job Purpose

To support environmental compliance and sustainability programs through regulatory reporting, permit management, data analysis, environmental improvement projects, and sustainability initiatives that advance the company's environmental and sustainability objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit environmental reports, permit applications, emissions inventories, and other technical documentation, including TRI, Tier II, stormwater DMRs, and annual/biennial waste reports
• Support compliance with environmental regulations including RCRA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, EPCRA, TSCA, and other applicable federal, state, and local requirements
• Monitor regulatory changes and assist with implementation of compliance requirements
• Participate in process improvement initiatives and manage corrective actions through completion
• Collect, analyze, and report sustainability metrics, providing recommendations for continuous improvement
• Collaborate with site personnel and operations teams to ensure the accuracy and integrity of environmental and sustainability data
• Identify, prioritize, and implement sustainability initiatives related to greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, water use, and waste reduction
• Partner with cross-functional teams to achieve environmental and sustainability objectives
• Support the design and implementation of environmental control systems, including air pollution control and wastewater treatment projects
• Assist with environmental inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action programs
• Train employees on environmental compliance responsibilities and sustainability initiatives
• Develop and deliver environmental and sustainability-related training programs

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Sustainability, Environmental Science, or a closely related field required
• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, or sustainability programs
• Strong understanding of environmental regulations, sustainability frameworks, and industry best practices
• Experience preparing environmental reports, permits, and regulatory submissions
• Proficiency in sustainability reporting, data analysis, and environmental management tools
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel and data analysis applications
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all levels of the organization
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and learn new skills quickly

Compliance and Physical Requirements

• Must meet ITAR and NAID requirements
• Ability to pass background screening, drug screening, and physical examination
• Ability to work in both office and industrial manufacturing environments
• Ability to conduct facility inspections and site assessments, including walking, climbing stairs, and accessing operational areas when required
• Occasional travel may be required
