Tesla is seeking an ambitious Environmental Engineer to join the Environmental, Health and Safety Team (EHS). The Environmental Engineer will report directly to the Senior Environmental Manager and will support environmental permitting and compliance programs for Texas (TX) Manufacturing sites. They will support day-to-day operations and associated environmental aspects/impacts to reduce environmental risk, assure environmental compliance, and seek and capitalize on opportunities to reduce environmental footprint of Texas manufacturing operations. The Environmental Engineer will develop, implement, and continuously improve programs within the EHS Management System framework in partnership with the broader EHS and Infrastructure teams. They will monitor and analyze the developing trends and changes in regulatory environmental laws, rules and regulations and assure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and conformance to internal and industry standards.

  • Prepare, update, and maintain Discharge Monitoring Reports for relevant water permits, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Reclaim Water Management Plans (RWP), and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, and other utility compliance reports to Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) or local authorities
  • Assist Texas manufacturing sites in determining applicability of wastewater discharge, stormwater, natural resources related permitting/compliance requirements
  • Support all water quality compliance assurance programs for Texas manufacturing sites and Air Permit Evaluations and Compliance Recordkeeping & Monitoring as assigned
  • Oversee implementation of Tesla's sustainability initiatives across Texas manufacturing sites as applicable
  • Assist with implementing Pollution Prevention (P2) practices and preparing/maintaining P2 plans and corresponding regulatory reports
  • Prepare content for environmental management training for inclusion in Tesla Learning Management System (LMS) or live training sessions
  • Perform environmental inspections and utilize tracking tools to issue recommendations and corrective actions to responsible stakeholders
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or an environmental-related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience managing multi-media environmental compliance programs in Texas
  • Previous experience preparing Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) and Hazardous and Industrial Waste compliance and reporting in Texas
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-faceted projects in a fast-paced environment where demands and priorities change rapidly
  • Ability to communicate effectively with production employees, engineers, legal counsel, technical specialists, and management cross-functionally in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Foundational knowledge of EHS laws (EPCRA, RCRA, IFC, DOT, CAA, CWA, OSHA, etc.), regulations, and standards
  • Advanced knowledge in environmental data analytics and environmental pollution release calculations
