About the Role:

The Environmental Engineer I is an early-career, problem-solving professional who supports Disney's corporate environmental programs by integrating regulatory compliance into complex construction and operational activities across our world-class entertainment portfolio. In this role, you will apply engineering fundamentals to protect air, water, and land resources while enabling innovative projects that help deliver unforgettable experiences for guests and Cast Members.

Responsibilities:

In this intermediate-level role, you will support planning, design, and execution of construction and operational projects with a focus on air quality, water compliance, and regulated waste, ensuring environmental requirements are embedded from concept through field implementation. Working independently with moderate guidance, you will collaborate with cross-functional partners to solve a range of technical problems, maintain strong regulatory compliance, and provide clear, data-driven insights that help Disney manage environmental risk while supporting business objectives. This role matters because it safeguards Disney's environmental performance and reputation, requiring strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

+ Ensure Environmental Construction Guides, specifications, and contract special conditions are properly incorporated into project designs and implemented throughout construction activities at the Resort.

+ Actively participate in design development and formal design reviews, providing environmental construction and compliance input to project teams.

+ Support early identification and escalation of environmental issues requiring specialized attention, including permitting, registrations, regulated material handling, demolition activities, and assessment of historical land use relative to planned work.

+ Conduct environmental compliance audits of construction sites, including hazardous waste accumulation areas, SWPPP implementation, and chemical management/VOC-related activities, and drive timely closure of findings.

+ Verify implementation and effectiveness of Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans and ensure compliance with applicable stormwater and water quality regulatory requirements.

+ Evaluate construction equipment for compliance with air quality standards, ensuring appropriate registration, permitting, and usage requirements are met.

+ Support acquisition and maintenance of environmental permits, registrations, laboratory sampling programs, and associated regulatory documentation for air, water, and waste programs.

+ Coordinate closely with Facilities Asset Management (FAM), Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI), and other construction and demolition stakeholders to plan for regulated waste generation, staging, transportation, and disposal, identifying opportunities for consolidation and efficiency.

+ Review laboratory analyses and develop waste characterization determinations to support compliant disposal of hazardous and nonhazardous waste streams.

+ Develop, maintain, and enhance GIS datasets, mapping products, and dashboards that integrate spatial data with environmental monitoring systems, inspection records, and regulatory reporting tools to support decision-making.

+ Contribute to internal standards, procedures, and communication materials that promote consistent environmental compliance practices across construction and operations teams.

+ Spend significant time in the field at construction and operational sites, sometimes in demanding weather and outside standard working hours, to support project needs and ensure compliance in real time.

Required Qualifications:

+ Years of Experience: 2+ years of relevant environmental engineering, environmental compliance, or closely related experience in construction, infrastructure, or industrial operations.

+ Bachelor's Degree or higher in Chemical, Civil, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.

+ Proven project management field experience supporting environmental aspects of construction or operational projects.

+ Detailed understanding of environmental requirements related to California-regulated waste, stormwater quality, and compliance with South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) permitting requirements.

+ Ability to understand and interpret construction drawings and the overall construction design process.

+ Knowledge of environmental sampling and analysis procedures, including interpretation of laboratory data for compliance and waste classification purposes.

+ Experience with GIS programming and application development, including scripting, automation, and spatial data analysis using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related tools (e.g., Workforce, Field Maps, Survey123, Dashboards, Experience Builder).

+ Demonstrated capability in database architecture, data visualization/dashboard creation, and basic web page development to support environmental data management and reporting.

+ Ability to function efficiently and independently in a fast-paced, changing environment while managing multiple tasks and priorities with attention to detail.

+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to explain complex technical information clearly to non-technical partners.

+ Effective collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to build partnerships across diverse teams and levels of the organization.

+ Willingness and ability to spend extensive time in the field, including walking construction sites and working non-standard hours as project needs require.

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related engineering or science field.

+ Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or the ability to obtain EIT certification within a defined timeframe.

+ Experience with Disney Theme Parks and Resorts or other large, multi-facility entertainment or hospitality operations.

+ Experience leading or supporting hazardous, solid, and recycling waste compliance programs, including interaction with regulatory agencies and third-party vendors.
