Environmental Field Chemist

What You'll Do

• Perform lab packing and chemical handling activities at customer locations, primarily at universities, hospitals, laboratories, research facilities, and similar organizations.
• Identify, classify, segregate, package, and label chemical materials and hazardous waste for transportation and disposal.
• Conduct chemical inventories and evaluate materials based on their physical and chemical characteristics.
• Ensure materials are handled in accordance with applicable DOT, EPA, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
• Prepare and maintain documentation, manifests, packing lists, labels, and other project paperwork.
• Sample and evaluate materials when necessary to determine appropriate handling and disposal methods.
• Inspect containers and work areas to ensure materials are properly packaged, labeled, stored, and ready for shipment.
• Communicate chemical hazards and handling requirements to customers, coworkers, and other personnel.
• Work with customers and Ross technical staff to address project needs and changes.
• Assist with environmental and industrial service activities as needed.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas and follow all required safety procedures and PPE requirements.
• Support Field Services projects from preparation through completion.
• Travel to customer locations and work in a variety of environments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for candidates with a background in chemistry, environmental science, biology, hazardous materials, environmental services, or a related field. Equivalent relevant experience may also be considered.

Experience in environmental services, hazardous waste, remediation, laboratory operations, chemical handling, industrial services, or a similar field is a plus. Experience operating equipment or holding a CDL is also beneficial but not required.

What to Expect

This is a field-based position, with the majority of work performed at customer locations rather than in a traditional laboratory or office setting. Much of your work will take place at universities, hospitals, research facilities, laboratories, and other organizations that use and manage chemicals and hazardous materials.

You will work alongside customer personnel and Ross team members to safely manage chemical materials and prepare them for proper disposal or other approved handling.

The position involves:

• Working around chemicals and hazardous materials.
• Wearing required personal protective equipment.
• Standing, walking, lifting, pushing, and pulling for extended periods.
• Working in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments.
• Working around laboratory, healthcare, research, and industrial equipment.
• Traveling to customer locations for projects.
• Learning Ross's procedures, safety practices, EPA guidelines and regulatory requirements through on-the-job training and field experience.
